François Kevorkian - Masterpiece Created By Francois K - 12-Mar-08 09:04 AM
There's really no denying the fact that Francois K has made waves in all forms of music, be it his intense knowledge and mastery of deep house, his extreme passion for dub and ambient, or his ability to take you for a journey of all types in his DJ set, so it should come to no surprise that he takes this new mix CD to new levels.

Disc 1 is simply a party mix - lots of minimal fanfare and more than a few tracks you're probably sick of hearing (Dubfire's "RibCage" and Audion's "Noiser" need to be retired) - all mixed together, surprisingly, in somewhat of a mediocre fashion.

Disc 2, while starting off deep and brooding, ramps itself up remarkably (and suddenly, if you ask me), breaking in to hard techno and classic, "true minimal" jams that you're not going to hear much of these days. Los Hermanos remix of Rob Hood anyone? Brilliant!

Disc 3 shows us where Francois shines. Deep, sexy, and so precisely mixed - you can tell this is where he put his effort in to this triple disc collection. I'm not one for shuffling in my seat at work, but this entire mix had me rocking out so hard that I instantly just put it back on and listened to it a second time. Choice notes go to Virgo Four's "In A Vision" and probably the best remix of Deee-Lite you'll ever hear.

It's no "Masterpiece" by any means, but it sure is a stunning example of just how versatile the crazy Frenchman is.

The rules of making a mix CD for mass distribution have been rewritten. Everyone take note - this is how it should be done! Old tracks blended perfectly with new to make them all sound timeless. A constant shuffling of styles and emotions to keep the listeners ears piqued. No matter how old you are or what kind of music you play, you need to own this CD. Hands down one of the best mixes I've heard in my life. Truly captures Steve's live shows, and perfectly describes what is the "minimal" sound, if you ask me.

Don't sleep on this one!!!

Octal Industries - Automatik - 24-Mar-06 04:32 AM
absolutely stunning tech-house material here. deep, etherial pads and synths over top a nice groove beats and basslines makes for two extremely hot trakcs. perfect for those in need of a little something more melodic and lush for those late night sets. it would be great if more records like this were produced...would make everything after 4am so much more interesting and etherial.

all levels of deepness and minimalism have been raised to another level with this release. octal comes back after a three year hiatus to make a beautiful record that anyone involved with the dub / downtempo / minimal scene should not be without. a stunning example of the beauty of techno...records like this are few and far between.

André Galluzzi - Berghain 01 - 24-Jan-06 01:54 PM
easily one of the best mix cd's of the last year. went under the radar of most fans of the minimal sound, but should not be overlooked by anyone. a stunning mix by galluzzi. a wonderfully flowing mix with sprinkles of hypnotic yet creepy vocals and lush pads make this compilation one of the best out there. its rare that i find a mix cd that keeps me wanting more, but this one definitely does that to me and anyone that i show it to.
