Reviews & Discussion:

Dfa records/parlophone will release a brand new collection of remixes of the classic lcd soundsystem musical epic 45:33 as a series of vinyl 12 inch singles this september. one of the most unique pieces of modern dance music you will ever hear, 45.33 was originally a one off collaboration on i-tunes for nike, but was subsequently released on and expanded cd & vinyl in its own right in nov ’07 due to overwhelming demand for it to physically hold. james murphy (lcd soundsystem, dfa records founder etc) is currently in the studio recording the follow-up to 2007’s massively critically acclaimed sound of silver album, which is set to drop in early 2010. watch this space for details and news over the coming months…you will not be disappointed. 45:33 was integral to shaping sound of silver, and here segments & parts of the record have been lovingly and respectively re-interpreted by some of dance music’s most innovative players
these new remixes of "Soundwave" are a special deep journey into the history of House Music ! First up is "man of the deep moments" Quarion ( Drumpoet Community ) who delivers a dark and spacious reinterpretation of the original that recalls a lot of great memories of early 90’s house tracks by the likes of Chez Damier, Moodyman and Basic Channel. The second remix is by our good friend Filippo "Naughty" Moscatello who was a big fan of the original track and insisted on making a remix for us, of which we were of course very honored by. You know Mr. Naughty from his great hits back in da days on Gigolo and his production on Dj Hell’s album "Munich Machine" and the hit single "Copa" also his "Disco Volante" album on the same label is a true classic ! Filippo is about to make his comeback in 2009 on Moodmusic with a new album
Gizelle Smith - June Dec 10, 2009
Recently picked up by Kenny Dope who released her single "Working Woman" on his Kay-Dee label, Gizelle Smith is considered to be the next big thing in today's deep funk scene. After 3 smash 45s and a full-length album with much respected Hamburg-based record label and live band The Mighty Mocambos, Gizelle is ready to launch her solo career with the new single "June". A sister funk masterpiece destined to rock the dance-floors and soon become a future classic. On the flipside, Alice Russel / Tru Thoughts funk producer TM Juke pushes the track even harder with a more dj-friendly cut. Still deep funk, still soul, still great....Not to be missed!
Cesare vs Disorder is London based Cesare Marchese, who currently travels and dj’s the world with his music. His latest Resopal has been already rocking the dancefloors and here comes the follow up ! "Smooth Saturn" EP. is a very original piece of music that will delight the followers of the deep and dark electronic sound of Cesare the latest artist signing in the Resopal family. But listen for yourselves and enjoy all four tracks.
DJ Wally - Nothing Stays The Same Dec 05, 2009 (edited 11 days ago)
DJ Wally has been a presence in the world of electronic music since the mid-90's, releasing his music through such labels as Mo'Wax and Ubiquity. Not limited to a single style, Wally shifts gears with a natural ease, drawing on hip-hop, drum n' bass, chilled-out grooves, and of course jazz. He does not shy away from risk-taking and the occasional focused experiment, but his tracks never lack a sense of purpose. The resulting music is elegant and sophisticated, but not without a healthy dose of streetwise attitude. Nothing Stays the Same has a classic vibe to it, hearkening back to the heyday of acid jazz and jazzy drum n' bass, but is distinguished by the masterful playing of living jazz legends as source material, providing a level of depth uncommon in the world of laid-back electronic music. Rather than relying on standard breakbeats and an aimlessly pasted series of samples to mold his tracks, Wally digs deep and turns out a wide array of percussive colors which he blends seamlessly with Guillermo E. Brown's extremely sophisticated sense of groove. The saxes of Daniel Carter and David S. Ware, William Parker's perfectly-formed bass tones, Peter Gordon's soaring flute colors, Khan Jamal's crystalline vibraphone work, and Matthew Shipp's signature piano playing all retain their innate jazz essence. These elements are woven together into a mix that fully rises to the occasion and, in fine Blue Series form, Wally conjures a vibe all his own.
MMS* - 25 Nov 30, 2009
Celebrating their 25th release Philpot release this limited edition 12", a perfect summation of the sound the label has been championing over the years. Elegant & deep, it encompasses all the lushness & deep house textures into a minimal late night aesthetic they do so well
The FR Prod (sub label Real Tone Records) release 012, features an excellent set of remixes contained in an EP entitled "Pa Casa De Jimenez" which the original is owned by Nelson Jimenez. "Pa Casa De Jimenez" in this package is subject to four aesthetic reconstructions, two by the hands of Franck Roger, and the other by The French Twins. This is a must !!!
