Profile: Evil Ed here, Hip Hop producer from the UK, I'm on here as an artist, Evil Ed (2), (damn I didn't get the top spot!) I have been collecting vinyl since 1984 at the age of 11 when I first got records like the Electro LP's on Street Sounds, the Wild Style soundtrack and UK pressings of 12"'s like "Step Off/The Message" and UTFO's "Roxanne Roxanne". I collect mainly Hip Hop/Rap and some original funk, soul, reggae etc. all kinds of stuff, I love records and own hardly any CD's. I don't have anything really rare, but loads of great tunes!

Kurious - II - 22-Oct-09 09:39 AM
I've been playing this CD a lot and have to say it's been a great listen. Every self respecting Hip Hopper has been a fan of Kurious from the early 90's and many across the globe have praise for his monster debut album 'A Constipated Monkey', the clasic singles and the trickle of cameo spots over the years. So what about this new full length work from an MC with one of the smoothest flows in the business? The album is a warming journey through the mind of a man who has grown up in Hip Hop and been though his fair share of life's up's and down's, the lyrics are personal, the beats are non-pretentious and it has a warm, heartfelt sound to it. Most importantly it doesn't sound like a forced, tired, comeback attempt, but the sound of an artist who felt the time was right to put out an album, picked some nice beats, wrote some ill rhymes and got in the mic booth to let the world know he's still here, that he's still a dope MC and has made something that is well worth having in the collection.
Strickly Roots - Duck Da Boyz / Get 'N Open - 09-Jan-09 05:26 AM
I heard this on Westwood's show in '94 played directly CDLD "I'm The Man" (another goodie from back then) and never knew what this tune was until today. I only ever had their other 12" 'Beg No Friends' which is nice too. After hearing this for the first time in over 10 years since I lost the tape I had it on I have to say it still sounds great. This is Hip Hop as it should be, raw beats and rhymes and lyrics that are actually saying something.
Wu-Tang Clan - Protect Ya Neck / After The Laughter Comes Tears - 25-Dec-08 05:17 AM
This record brings back memories for me of vinyl shopping in Luton's Bluebird/Soulsense Records back in the day, copping 12"'s freshly imported from the US, many of which I'd never heard until the guys behind the counter put them on the decks. From the openeing fight sounds to the raw beat that drops this was an instant classic with not, one, not two, but a whole crew of MC's destroying the competition with quotables for days, The Wu had arrived and I was buzzing when I bagged it up and took it home, it must have been glued to the turntable for months, at least until the '36 Chambers' album came out. The original version of 'After The Laughter' on here is so raw and when this came out was the perfect remedy to the cleaner productions around. If you collect vinyl and are a fan of the Wu then you really need to own this 12".
Hansel The Unicorn - £5 An Hour E.P. - 14-Dec-08 08:37 AM
This went over a lot of people's heads. A Hip Hop Connection magazine reviewer described it as "self indulgent" which Hansel took as a great compliment. This is the sound of one man band Hansel, multi-instrumentalist/singer-songwriter aka AH Fly (the producer from UK Hip Hop heavyweights Universal Soldiers)with his off the wall alter-ego. I'd reccomend that anyone who want's something challenging to the usual safe sonic soundscape should check out this record. You will hear layers of samples from records, films and the real world fused with synths, sax and vocals from this talented musician and if you can't get with the experimental sh*t then 'Rat Face Girl' should bring a smile to your face.
If a bigger label like Stones Throw had released this (and it is not a million miles away, although not directly influenced by, Gary Wilson or some of Madlib's more experimental tracks) then this would be a collectors item. I took a gamble putting out this 7", but did so because I'm a fan and felt it should be on wax. I hope people discover this down the line and will enjoy it as much as myself.
2 Live Crew* - Get It Girl / Cut It Up - 23-Nov-08 06:45 AM
'Cut It Up' remains one of my favourite DJ tracks of all time, with Mr Mixx on top form. This was a favourite from the debut LP by 2 Live Crew '2 Live Is What We Are' and it was great to find this on a 12". In retrospect this is kind of 2 Live's Miami style version of 'Peter Piper' by Run DMC and just as fun to listen to. The beats are deadly as you'd espect from this era and the cuts were in a class of their own for that time too. Anyone who only knows latter releases by 2 Live and only remembers them as a footnote in Hip Hop history for their obscene lyrics and subsequent bans shound check this out and the first 2 albums (not to mention the 12"'s they dropped prior to those) to hear that this early stuff by them is the real deal, and that Mister Mixx was a scratch pioneer.
