µ-Ziq - Duntisbourne Abbots Soulmate Devastation Technique - 01-Sep-08 05:17 PM
It seem µ-Ziq is forever to remain in the shadow of his more illustrious musical friends - Aphex Twin, Autechre, Venetian Snares et al - & for good reason. Theres very little imagination or indeed talent displayed in this album. None of the tracks distinguish themselves significantly; theres a variety of styles on display, but thats about as far as the interest goes here. This is basic, uninteresting stuff; not in any way unexpected from µ-Ziq, but very disappointing nonetheless.

Ochre - 26-Aug-08 06:37 AM
Unfortunately, Ochre hasnt yet proved what hes capable of - at least, not consistently. His range of sounds & timbres remains doggedly narrow, extremely so in fact, & this is a major flaw in music by someone who clearly has an energetically imaginative mind. The structures he uses are interesting, at times unusual, & on occasion he has struck out into some most inventive post-ambient waters. But these are sadly rare excursions in an output that, to date, has fallen short of being truly impressive.

Fires Of Ork, The - The Fires Of Ork 2 - 19-Jun-08 11:53 PM
This is a feeble album, hardly worthy of the "ambient" epithet. Like so many similar releases, the album is littered with clichés & hackneyed ideas of what ambient should be. Far from approaching any kind of “beauty”, the result is just bland and boring. A tediously overlong drift through a sadly (and, at times, laughably) predictable soundscape, this is most definitely to be played solely as background music. But only when youve already left the house. Avoid.
