Reviews & Discussion:
Oh no, it's the Bjork many of us don't like, again! Volta is just a bunch of noises, distorted sounds, out of tune, melody. I understand artists should evolve, Bjork certainly has the talent to move forward but with this new release I bet she is going the other way. If you haven't been into Bjork, this is deffinitely not the album to get into her. I miss the pre-Medulla Bjork. I miss her so much.
The Good Looking Records label definitely stands for quality drum and bass or if I may say so, honorary ambassadors of Drum and Bass. For many years since the early 1990's this was the factory of the finest, most delightful, melodic and atmospheric drum and bass ever created. Leaded by legendary Danny Williamson, a.k.a. LTJ Bukem, Goodlooking had internal conflicts that ultimately lead the label to sink in the music industry. The latest has been the shut down of their website www.glo.uk.com and www.goodlooking.org that hadn't been updated since late 2004. In October 2005, LTJ Bukem toured the U.S.A. alongside the one and only MC Conrad. In a gig in Saint Petersburg, FL, I asked Bukem why didn't he updated the website, he answered that he had more important things to do such as focusing on music. At this point in time GLO's future is yet uncertain (if it still exists), but in spite of this, if you ever find a GLO record in a store, you can rest assure it is a masterful piece of the best drum and bass music ever produced.
What I like most about Saint Etienne is that they always maintain their style: a retro touch, a pop sparkle and loads of melodic happiness in their tracks and finisterre is no exception. Extremely well made music it deffinitely ranks among the best electronic bands ever and their music is always spirit upliftin.
LTJ Bukem Featuring MC Conrad - Progression Sessions 10 - Germany Live 2004

Long awaited, this is LTJ Bukem's latest release from the Progression Sessions series. It is the first Progression Sessions also released under the Benz Street label. It was intended to be promoted under the U.S.A. October Tour, but it was cancelled and instead it was promoted in the U.K. The intro in the first track is terrible as sounds like a copy and paste and does not match with the first song. There are not many tracks with new sounds and is just another number in the Progression Session series. And as a fan said: "It starts to sound more like a housey thing rather than DnB".
Being an Orbital fan since I heard Belfast for the first time, I may say that I've been able to see "the rise and the fall" of Orbital. For me no doubt that the "Green" , "Brown" and "Snivilisation" albums were the rise, "In Sides" and "The Middle of Nowhere, the peak and "The Altogether" and "Blue Album" the fall. With the release of "Blue Album" I´m glad to know that such fall (almost "agony") is over. Without a doubt the Harnolll brothers have made Orbital a landmark in the Electronic Music hall of fame.
There's no doubt that in every Björk release you will observe an evolution in her style, however in my opinion Medúlla is not an evolution but mutation indeed. Do not expect the melodic tunes and sing-along songs from her previous albums but a musical experiment. Submarine is the best track in this album but the other tracks difer much from what Björk used to sound. | ||||
