Various - May The Plague Be With You... - 10-Dec-06 12:28 AM
Belgiums newly founded label, Plague Recordings, has brought to us one incredible dark ambient sounding release. The packaging alone, this is a strictly hand numbered release, is unique. I sat there for a few minutes trying to figure out how to open the CD without breaking the seal that has the hand written number (my copy is #33/69). Just for a moment, I felt like the primates in the beginning of Kubricks 2001: Space Odyssey baffled by the black monolith. For the last week Ive put this CD on before going to bed and find myself falling asleep about halfway through track #2. Track#2 makes me feel like Im at some futuristic subway preparing to board a sleek train. Last night, I put on track #3 first for a change. This track has icy sounds that are suitable for the current cold weather. I suddenly felt my body temperature drop about 10 degrees due to these strange frigid sounds. For me, track#1 is the stand out with its opening eerie sounds, conjuring up some form of metallic beast. These sounds signal the start of an incredible journey through an ambient labyrinth. After 69 minutes of soothing beat-less sound-scapes, I find myself in deep sleep. Good night.

Duplex - Late Night Driving - 20-Aug-06 08:40 AM
I just picked it up yesterday and it wont leave my CD player. It captures all the things I love about early Detroit techno techno. This CD is simply amazing and a treat for those who miss Detroit technos heydey. This CD is perfect for late night driving or travelling! I listened to it on an 8 hour train ride back from San Fran last night.

New Order - Ceremony - 23-Apr-05 12:49 AM
Both recording of these songs didnt feature Gillian Gilbert and have a rougher sound the version that eventually appeard on the white & blue 12" single. As far as I know, these 7" versions have yet to appear on CD!

Abecedarians - Smiling Monarchs - 27-Feb-05 03:35 AM
Very New Order sounding! I think Bernard Sumner had somethig to do with the production. Smiling Monarchs has a big beat with loud keyboards. I actually prefer the faster b-side "Benways Carnival". The material that appeared on Eureka & Resin doesnt like these 2 songs at all. If you like this release seek the 2x10" The Other Side of the Fence!

Cybotron - Motor City Machine Music: An Exploration Of Cybotron - 26-Feb-05 07:45 PM
Thank goodness no post-Enter Cybotron material was included. Instead we get more mixes of "Lets Go" and "Cosmic Cars" (records that seem to fetch big chips on unnamed auction websites). So save your chips, and picked up this CD. A good lesson in the history of electro, it includes the landmark "Clear". There was enough space and they (BGP)should have included the rough mix of Clear that originally appeared on the vinyl Fantasy records LP "Enter". That version of Clear has a lot of guitar sounds in it and you can see how it paved the way for Mr. Atkins departure!
