De La Soul - Jenifa (Taught Me) / Potholes In My Lawn - 28-Aug-07 10:39 PM
i gave this a 5/5, just due to the fact how important this was when it came out, majorly slept on..but once 3 feet high and rising came out, people knew. Was lucky to get this in 1988..one of my first hip hop records, i think just after I got Yo Bum Rush the Show by Public Enemy.

De La Soul - Buddy / The Magic Number - 28-Aug-07 10:39 PM
the Buddy (Native Tongue Decision Mix), is different, and more compelling than the mix on the LP. It is more of a cut and paste vehicle for Prince paul, and has some amazing moments. Has the Tanna Gardner "heartbeat" as it's main groove! Hearing this come through a late night mix show on a radio station from Detroit (just lived an hour away in southern ontario) back in 1989, was supremely exhilirating. These were literally sounds coming from another planet.

De La Soul - De La Soul Is Dead - 28-Aug-07 10:39 PM
AMAZING follow up to 3 feet... way darker, pessimistic, and underrated. Have this 2 LP, with picture cover, but mine has a promo stamp on it.. rarer than the black Cover promo it seems. Finally got it right to spread these songs over 2 LPs..as they squeezed too much on 1 disc on 3 feet high.

as mentioned, this is missing the 'skits' I have this, along with the proper picture sleeve double Promo with Skits intact

De La Soul - 3 Feet High And Rising - 28-Aug-07 03:37 PM
This is classic! The only gripe I have is the mixing of this LP, and how this was not originally spread out on 2 LP's. The grooves are very tight, hence you loose dynamic range for the breadth of this Album. very low volume, and due to that, when you try to compensate by turning it up, you get alot of hiss. I have a double LP reissue, and it does not seem to rectify this (was it mastered from the original LP?) would like to see a proper reissue on 2LP's with a better mix. The 1989 CD suffers from the same low dynamic range too. So, maybe it's in the master mix?
