Back In Time - Untitled - 18-Jun-08 07:46 AM
On paper, this Back in Time release sounds like a mound of gooey cheese. Disco versions of El Condor Pasa and Sound of Silence? When the vocals drop out on El Condor Pasa and the track goes strictly instrumental, there is something special in play. It turns into a hypnotic, cosmic jam that eventually builds and crescendos to a freak-out between vibes, synths and drums.
That's not to say the other tracks here aren't worth the purchase. There's an urgency to most of them that gives the entire release a unique feel.
Schatrax - #8 - 29-Sep-07 07:56 PM
Cut the lights, turn up the volume. Schatrax 8 is single-minded, dirty, raw techno meant to be played as loud as possible in a dark room. It lightens up a bit on the B side, particularly on the downtempo cut but I guess it does provide some relief to what has preceded it. Nevertheless, the entire release is still pretty damn dark. There are many gems in the Schatrax catalogue and this one ranks very high.
Amplified Orchestra - Moon Voyage - 24-Aug-07 05:53 AM
I love it! When I purchased this at a store in Chicago and asked the owner if he knew anything about this release as it has a local Chicago address (11834 S. Western Avenue) stamped on the label, he said it was a crew of local guys in South Chicago and was going to email them to let them know their record had been stocked. So, the Dutch can fool even the locals in Chicago it seems!
Various - The Love We Share - 15-Jan-07 02:49 AM
The Love is a maze of rounded edges, hazy ceilings and bumpy floors. The entry point is "Push" from L'usine where staccato beats are balanced by a warm, dense atmosphere that grows to gradually envelope the rhythm. A fitting starting point for such an excellent collection of tracks, all of driving beats pulsating beneath warm, dubbed out tones. To me, this is an unassuming sleeper that sounds just as good as when I first heard it several years ago.
Matthew Thomas - Architecture - 14-Jan-07 07:58 AM
Architexture is a sort of industrial but primitive minimal techno. On the surface, it has a cold nature and is occasionally pretty rigid. Yet, even at its most isolating, when the rhythms are echoing across what feels like a deep cavern, it feels comforting. I like the use of space as there are these lulls between the pulses where you feel sucked into a vacuum before being pushed back out. Close your eyes and immerse yourself in this.
