Brothomstates - Qtio - 14-Nov-08 08:13 AM
Quite possibly better in terms of less-is-more when it comes to an IDM listeners sonic appetite. I heard thus after ingesting Claro, and I must say the range of sounds here engulf a breadth of experience I hadnt yet come across. The title track is a blend of garbled hip-hop lyrics looped against broken beats and spastic drums, but with that calmness Lassi is so good at seasoning his music with. The whole cd is stand-out.
System Busters* - Godzilla / Mental Floss - 16-May-08 10:12 PM
As this 12" is absolutely bizzare and almost too mayhemic to listen to, it stands alone as a direction Tip Records could have rocketed to as they were nearing the end of the cheesy/ classic Goa era. This is probably a very good example of the earlier psytrance sound that was only for the people whose brains could handle such insanity with clarity. It is not a very dancefloor-ey record, but to a collector, it is an example of a stand-out release whose weirdness has stood the test of time. Its the crazy stuff only the freaks liked. Good stuff.
Various - TIP Singles 3 - 16-May-08 10:00 PM
Overall good release from Tip Records. All the tracks here are solid 1998 psychedelic sounds moving further away from the hi-energy psy/goa sound Tip Records and others previously corked out. These are all more in the stranger vein, crunchier and less dependent on synth hooks and acid lines, albeit produced well. The Systembusters and Slinky Nuns tracks are my favorites- very psy-tech trancey and strange. Growlmonizer is neat, and has that Simon sound but isnt huge like Hallucinogen. Im not a big fan of Doof, and I can never tell what pitch to play "Star Above Parvati", so I just skip over it. My copy has a mislabel, as the last two tracks: The Infinity Project and Doof labels are on opposite sides of the record. Another thing, the Infinity Project track, "Overwind" remix by Acid Rockers here is written by R. Rothfield and G. Wood. On the 12" single "Overwind", (discogs release/58971), "Overwind" is written by Graham Wood and Raja Ram. All in all, Im glad this was released because it was a good breath of fresh air for the label.
Transwave - Helium - 12-May-08 10:41 AM
I wouldnt call this "Goa Trance" at first listen; nor at second or third listening. This is really more like hypnotic shamanic trance with Goa elements interspersed about the tracks. From beginning to end is a pulsating journey into the outerspace. This is a very well-done album and certainly some of the best music Matsuri Productions put out. And while there are Goa elements throughout, its not "Goa" like Doof Goa or The Infinity Project Goa. Completely different- these arent floor stompers through and through- Transwave wasnt afraid to have nice smooth breakdowns and intros. Each track has a story. Very nice.
Madonna - Bedtime Story - 21-Apr-08 04:06 PM
IMHO this is one of Madonnas more ethereal and honest tracks, even if it was written by Bjork. I personally dont think Madonna could write a song as good as Bedtime Story. The tracks are mainly Junior Vasquez remixes, all very club house/ pop re-workings. Then, there is the Orbital Remix. This song could possibly the best reason to obtain this cd. It totally stands out from the rest of the tracks, and is probably the best one. The Survival song is another Madonna B-side, and is unremarkable. I rate it 2/5, a little begrudgingly, save the Orbital remix.
