Profile: Art student. Love EBM/electro industrial from 80's/90's, i.e. Skinny Puppy, Globalwavesystem, NIN, Vomito Negro, Click Click, X-Marks The Pedwalk, Invincible Limits, Ministry, Portion Control, The Fair Sex, Insekt, etc.

My wants are already noted in my wantlist, but my BIGTIME wants are (under 30 U.S. dollars please):

"VOMITO NEGRO: SHOCK" (CD)
"VOMITO NEGRO: HUMAN" (KK BELGIUM RELEASE, NOT CARGO RECORDS w/ slipcase)
"INVINCIBLE SPIRIT: SAVEHEADS" (CD)
"LEAETHER STRIP: PLEASURE OF PENETRATION" (CD)
"ROBOTIKO REJEKTO: CYPER SPACE" (CD)

Here's my rating system for the stuff in my collection:

1/5: Played seldom, may not be TERRIBLE but just not really my cup of tea.

2/5: Not a bad album necessarily, just doesn't hold my interest but has a few songs I like.

3/5: Generally good/great album that I play quite a bit.

4/5: Excellent album listened to all the time, with only one or two dud songs

5/5: Handed out sparingly, but this means I friggin love the album, it has been spun endlessly and would probably take it to a desert island if I had to thin my collection.

Reviews & Discussion:

Where's the love for this band? Along with Sielwolf and The Fair Sex, I'd vote them some of the most underrated of bands. Really in a class of their own actually. I wasn't terribly impressed with their first two releases (which were combined into the Van Richter release 'Transmissions From a Chemical Land). On this release, they sound much more confident and fleshed out. This is actually some pretty freaky stuff. I can't even begin to describe their sound or compare them to anyone, maybe a little similar to early Frontline Assembly, maybe not. All I know is, 'Afterschock' is one kick-ass song and one of the scariest eletro songs ever. These guys were onto something here, its a shame they didn't keep it. Fans of Skinny Puppy, Frontline Assembly, or any of the other Van Richter labelmates will probably enjoy this.

This is truly some scary shit, the effect is even heightened by playing it at night. This wouldn't be out of place in a Terminator movie or something. It's not on my top ten favorite list or anything but its really great avante garde industrial. Fans of Ministry or KMFDM may or may not find something to like here, this is much more repetitive and noise driven, but it has the searing riffs of Ministry juxtaposed. Despite the screeching noise, repetitive machine beats, and menacing vocals, it can actually become ambient, sorta like Godflesh. 'Vengessen' slips into an awesome mechanical ambience with washes of synth choir. Very nice stuff, probably make your neighbors wonder what the heck is wrong with you.
Their best IMO next to Shock. The minimalist, mostly instrumental concept didn't work on Human very well IMO, but it works here. The album sounds more focused, whereas Human was jumping all over the place and often got boring.

Next to Skinny Puppy: Bites, this is the first album in a long time that actual frightens me to a certain degree, and thats why I like it. :) For those of you wanting dancy EBM, there's not much here for you, except maybe 'Blind Eyes' or the title track. Those of you who loved to listen to the largely instrumental track Skinny Puppy 'Bites' album, this should be up your alley.

The album stays in the creepier side, and much like their Myspace page claims, Vomito Negro is steeped in film noir influence. This would make perfect horror movie music. I prefer listening to it in the dead of night before bed or on a walk.
Stuff like opening/closing 'Immortal/Mortal', 'Umbriferous' and 'Daddy' are exceptionally goosebump giving. 'To Auto Logos' is a pure nightmare sure to make your blood chill at every turn. Occasional vocal tracks emerge like 'System', 'XTC' 'Blind Eyes' and the ominous title track. Vomito Negro knows how to take minimalism and film noir roots and make something satisfyingly blood curdling. Highly recommended.
Vomito Negro - Shock Jun 11, 2008
I was really surprised at how raw this was first time I heard it. Slowly over time I discovered just how awesome an album it was and have spun it considerably this year. Yes, it has really rough production, especially on the vocals but it kinda adds to the charm if you like darker, rougher stuff like this. 'From Above' has become one of my favorite instrumentals of all time, queued on my mp3 player endlessly. Other excellent standouts are 'Chicago Cave' 'Baby Needs Crack' and 'Humiliation', although all 8 songs are awesome. Unless Wake-Up or Fireball bowls me over when I acquire them, this will remain my favorite Vomito Negro.
Disappointing, considering the time and money I spent trying to get a copy. I guess its fun to have as a Fair Sex fan, but I can't help but wonder if they were trying to find their sound here. The electronics sound really thin, and a couple songs border on being cheesy, for example 'Alyens' or 'Jumping', although the latter song is enjoyable in a silly way. A few choice tracks like 'The Pain No One Knows' and such are present. This was also apparently the only album drummer A. Bang performed fully on, although alot of the songs sound like they use a drum machine anyhow. But the ones that actually sound as if they have real drumming are more fleshed out, in my humble opinion. If you're looking to begin collecting Fair Sex stuff, go for the Machine Bites or Dark Ages compilations and get a sample of which era you like.
One of their best and darkest albums and a great listen all the way through. The electronics sound pretty dated sometimes, but that adds to the charm of it really. I have spun this so many times as well as queued it on my mp3 player alot. If you get no other song off here, get 'The Wild Ones Fade' which is my favorite. Not a bad song in the bunch however, the guitars usually only accent the music with a bit of gritty texture. They do however go all industrial/punk on 'Boredom Kills, probably why they felt the need to do the Testify stuff a few years later. The programming, while dated and simple sometimes is incredibly catchy. Myk Jung doesn't even need distortion on his voice (Although it sounds even more insane when distorted, for example 'The Wild Ones Fade'). Its a near travesty this band never got recognized over here in the United States until recent years.
