Meat Beat Manifesto - 99% Mar 08, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
Get comfortable, strap yourself in and get ready for a serious journey into hard techno music. It blows your head off to put it lightly and is guaranteed to clear your house of unwanted guests! An absolute classic of monumental standards from start to finish. I can't say the same about anything later than Satyricon (which is also superb). This LP seemed to reach the peak of what MBM had been aiming towards over the previous few years and focusing more on the harder and less funk-based tracks. Great stuff.

This is the first Meat Beat track i ever heard. It was on a video called 'The Evil Acid Baron Show'. Meat Beat's track was not actually mixed up into this acid trip mix but placed near the end of the video along with Baby Ford as separate videos. Totally imprinted on my brain is the S&M styled video. Lots of shiny leather knicker clad girls in cages, a guy on the decks in a straight jacket and huge nostrils from which one of the band members is coming out of of. Angst ridden with stomping beats that was so way ahead of anything anybody else was doing at the time and lets face it...Meat Beat have been credited as being the inventors of breakbeat as we know it. Kick-ass beats with sampling work to die for this really was one of the tunes from my early rave days (not that it was being played in the raves) that still has the same excitement when played today. Classic!

This is a seriously dark and far removed set of remixes from the original. Unlike the original (or any other mix for that matter), these are slowed down dub soundscapes from the plains of hell itself. Even though the bassline is really warm, the feel of the tracks are icy cold and very detached. Conjurs up images of somebody sitting in foetal position, wide eyed and rocking back and forth in a padded cell. Lovely!
There was a time when a friend of mine started a rumour that the mixes were by Andrew Weatherall and i can very much believe it but to date i have no evidence of that. It seems funny that Mr. Dangers was always way ahead of his time, but this 12 really did come very early and is very much in tune with the stuff he puts out now. I suppose thats why the name of the track 'NOW' really is appropriate.

The sheer power of the tracks on this record is immense. Its unbelievable really that it would be Nine Inch Nails that would get all the fame when these guys wipe the floor with them. Such badass distorted kick drum beats with sounds that screech, bite and beckon. Its unfortunate that these were just way ahead of anybody else to be taken notice of.
Anybody into hard techno who has the belief that good hard techno didn't start until 92 or later, think again. Meat Beat were splatting people to the walls long before the PCP guys or Ahex Twin. Check this out and don't get me wrong, the track DV8 has so much funk, you really will be amazed at how old but undated this is (even if you dont like Jack's angry shouting).

So way ahead of anything else for years. This (as are all Meat Beat releases) really is something bigger darker and funkier than the rest. Think Prince crossed with with Aphex and Mad Professor. This LP never fails to excite me even after its been in existence since 89. How many other LP's that came out that year can i say that about! Hmmm. A true masterpiece of electronic music and a must for anybody searching out the roots of hardcore techno. Meat Beat after all did get branded as the inventors of breakbeat which says enough really.
