Dopplereffekt - Calabi Yau Space
Feb 23, 2008
Another masterpiece by the nebulous Drexciya legacy. Breaking with all conventional musical rules this records continues the journey into unexplored terrain much like other recent material in other disguises (Der Zyklus, Arpanet). IMHO the artist(s) behind it have discovered sound sculpturing with Absynth. That's what makes it organic and machinesque at the same time all while sounding confusing to the uncommitted listener. The fascination and confusion arising with recent discoveries in modern physics is very much audible here. If you don't understand what the track titles mean you probably won't understand the music as well.
What? No comment for this masterpiece yet? For me this is one most deep and intriguing ambient works ever produced. Despite me not being the biggest fan of all of Dan Burke's work this album is the great exception. The soundscapes presented are really like imaginary journeys from macro- to microcosm and back. The ingredients are organic drones, vibrating string planes and haunting field recordings with a very naturalistic touch to it. 'Immerse' is my favourite track on the album starting out with a hypnotically stretched string melody accompanied by the sound of something like breaking waves on a beach and gradually shapeshifting into the sounds of cars passing by on a wet road. Genious.
There is something about this record that is hard to describe. It's like a mix of primordial fears and strange childhood memories. Or maybe i'm just completely crazy. However, the energy contained in this album is extraordinary.
Whoever thought the bigbeat aera is over - you gotta listen to this. 'Lard' just blew my friggin brains out!! As did in fact most tracks on this record. To me this album sounds like a bastard mutant offspring of the Prodigy, Christal Method and Chemical Brothers... All in all an extremely well elaborated piece of advanced electronic dancefloor assault taking bigbeats to the next step. Looking forward to see these guys playing live sometime...
A timeless masterpiece! Far away from any known styles Leo Anibaldi creates his own uncategorizable, dark, haunting and bizarre universe. Theres even some killer electro tracks that are shure to work on any ambitious dancefloor (try tracks 6 and 9). Despite its age this record has me hooked on a genuine horror trip each time im listening to it in full length. Fuckin brilliant!
Definitely one of the most talented producers of contemporary electronic music and the originator of the term Advanced Sampling (tm) for good reason. I like the idea of Uwe Schmidt being a victim of alien abduction in his young years and having his brain replaced by an extraterrestrial style sampling device instead. Although recent activities as Senior Coconut have brought him dangerously close to mainstream-radar detection ranges his countless other manifestations fortunately remain way beyond that, making his records precious collector items. However, the best thing IMHO is that it's all being served with a healthy pinch of dry humour. So, why don't you sit down, relax, have a coffee? :) | ||||
