Profile: Hillegonda Rietveld holds a PhD in Cultural Studies on House Music and has published widely in the field, including the book 'This Is Our House: House Music, Cultural Spaces and Technologies' (Ashgate). She was the rhythm designer and chord grafter for Quando Quango, recording artists with Factory Records, Manchester. Appeared as vocalist on their first single, 'Go Exciting' and was responsible for the recognisable bass line of 'Love Tempo'. Currently, she is an underground dance music (UDM) DJ and works as Senior Lecturer in Arts and Media at South Bank University, london, UK.

Quando Quango - Love Tempo (Remixed By Mark Kamins) Jun 12, 2002
A good example of punk funk, the remix of this tune (also released on Factory New York) inspired early house producers, such as Chicago's Vince Lawrence, to put their own dance tracks together in 1983. With its 808 driven rhythm and idiosyncratic bassline, it still sounds remarkably fresh.
