Just for starters... somebody pointed this out to me a year ago: a "Striped Bass" is a type of large mouth fish. another Omni A.M. record is called "Kastmaster," which is a brand of fishing hooks used to catch Striped Bass - The Kastmaster 12" also has a picture of a fishing hook on it. In the tradition of Omni A.M. embedded humor, I'm still trying to figure out the connection to fish in these tracks... might have something to do with the overemphasized "push and pull" quick breakdowns that you hear on both records. I dont' fish so maybe someone else can explain it better...
Sick Sense is some kind of gothic ambient bad trip... put it on at 5 in the morning to scare the kids. I on U is a big room stormer. should work in techno sets as well as house sets, classic omni a.m. Buckshot is a wierd raggae gangster track with a country (believe it!) influence. Smurfette's Big Night is the tech-house homage to groupsex (i couldn't make this stuff up if i wanted to!). Omni A.M. once again proves that originality comes from the least expected places in the Tech-House world.
This record reminds me of warehouse parties in Chicago in the mid 90's. These dudes were playing the real bizness while everyone else was just clownin'! It sounds a little dated, but it's still a classic to me.
Marky Star leads the way with this 2 track acid rocker. "Secrets" is a Chicago style warehouse track. "Tool Time" is a tribute to the lovable american comic Tim Allen and his zaney TV family. This track is also total warehouse party material. Like most of Mr Star's production, both sides are massive sounding which betrays the simplicity of his style.
Very intense, very ORIGINAL track by Marky Star, formerly of Omni AM. It's not house, but it's housey. It's not acid, but it's acidy. I think it's just this guy knows how to craft really unique tracks that devastate dancefloors whenever I hear them.
