Profile: huäräsiäch 59 years old, musician (New band: Hotcha And The Teenage Lesbians From Hell), a.k.a. Biff Malibu And The Marinas, , founded the cassette label Calypso Now in 1983 and released more than 200 tape productions until 1988, self-produced or licensed to the label.

Unfortunately for 'my' artists, I started the band Pull My Daisy in '87, playing more and more gigs in Switzerland and Germany, so I couldn't keep on firing out those cassettes, which meant to take a break and concentrate on the band. During that time I also did radio shows for several stations featuring independent productions, crossing over to national radio at the end of the 80's, where I did a 2-, then 3-hour-show every month with the great Suzanne Zahnd (an icon in Switzerland!). Today's ears wouldn't believe it, but we even played my scratched records from the flea markets.

For complicated reasons everything came to a full stop when Grunge and Rave took over. Until I started again...

Discogs helps me to clean up my archives of literally thousands of tapes and records, mostly 80's stuff, free jazz, obscure folk music, hippy classics, noise and found voices. I also try to sell parts of my collection - but can't seem to really let go. Therefore, I mainly sell duplicates at the moment. These sales help me to finance the relaunch of my cassette label (which now is active again), but the best part of the money goes to Kiva Microcredits. I think to reach the sum of 900 $ lent by the end of 2010. (Actually, there's now 1000 $ lent by October 16, 2010!!)

Also check out my calypsonow-blog for more informations.

and you can hear me on laut.fm/latriperie, sometimes I play cassettes, sometimes I play just about anything I like.

I sometimes also sell records and CDs here: http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?seller=hotcha_sells_records

Dino, Desi And Billy* - Look Out Girls Aug 22, 2010 (edited about 1 year ago)
This one might be in the run for the most overblown productions of all time (well, there are thousands of them, fortunately...). But if you are a fresh teen, have the good looks of your rat pack big star father Dean Martin and just started a band with two of your Hollywood friends, get your songs written and arranged by the big big shots of the business, have a record contract with a big cool label - that's the stuff big jet set dramas are made of.
Well, without all that background, this single here would not really deserve attention, but starstruck smalltown boys are still shaking their hips to that guitar monster with the big tv 'serie noir' orchestra. I'm talking about the A-side here, which does it for the dance floor, while the flipside satisfies the streetwise poet. Anyhow, they should have let Kim Fowley get his hands into that, really!

It's no secret that the B-sides of pop singles contain sometimes hidden treasures for the lover of the strange and bizarre. Just today I found in my pile of second hand singles a really dark story by french mainstream artist Michel Sardou. While I bought the single for the (weak) A-side with french blondie Mireille Darc, an icon of 70's cinema, all lips, hair and sweet smile, it's the flip side that values my time.

Sardou starts with a plea to find his wife, but not to call his parents, he would not support their tears, as his mother would be afraid of his blood. To mystic theremin synthesizers, female background vocals from hell and much drama, Sardou goes on about how to find the number of his wife in the glove compartment of his car, and how he hopes he didn't kill anybody. Obviously, he's laying somewhere, after an accident, and he's insulted by strangers, why, he does not know. One must assume they are relatives of his victims. If he dies, he does not know - neither do we, as the single ends after 4 minutes to the screech of sirens, probably the ambulance or patrol cars. Really very dark stuff for the mainstream.
Jerry Williams (7) Jan 13, 2010 (edited over 2 years ago)
I have a hunch that Jerry Williams (2) and Jerry Williams (7) are one person. They appear in the same period of time, same style of music, plus Rob Kennedy, with whom (7) worked, hails from Washington D.C. (Chumps and Jihad is the band) before Rob moved to New Jersey, where (7) appears as guest on a first production Kennedy did as new member of a local garage band. I suppose he drafted his old buddy for production. Also the appearance of Rudi Protrudi from the Fuzztones as another guest on these sessions of the New Jersey band Rob Kennedy joined, 'Deprogrammers', gives me the feeling that these people were quite involved in the garage and punk scene of that time, in which (2) prominently appears.
there seems to be some confusion here, just look at the covers that have been uploaded. First, I never heard of this 1000 copies limit; as a matter of fact, I was releasing this tape in Switzerland (Calypso Now) in 1984, together with the other Third Mind Tapes of the time. So the inner side of the cover that has been uploaded shows the Calypso Now version, which went under the order number of TMD29 (never shown on the covers).
this tape was authorized by the band, it seems. blixa designed the cover, and producer pi. was good friends with the band. the calypso now release was authorized by the berlin label. only about 20 copies of this release have been made.
