Sniper - Dub Plate Pressure (Remix) / Roulette - 23-Oct-09 09:44 AM
What an amazing EP - cant believe noone's commented on it yet. A side's Dub-Plate Pressure is a brilliant example of how a remix should take a great tune and make it even better - it's just one of those tracks you can drop at the start or the end of a set and just watch the crowd go crazy as the first stabs rinse out and when that kick pattern rolls out with MC GQ bustin a shout - still - 10yrs on - it's just mad & the energy ia amazing. B Side's Roulette just kicks off from the word go with heavy amen pressure & then a bass-heavy reese hits you hard before rolling down into a classic steppa very ala Ray Keith of the time.
Beyond The Future - Feel It - 23-Oct-09 05:09 AM
A wicked example EP of 1993 chop up darkside jungle. Side A features sped up whale calls (from Star Trek), frantic beats backed up with a solid low end rumbling bassline and some sweet female vocals which break down in an eerie synth before it all rolls off again into bass & breaks with the main female vocal hook so nicely - this second half sounds very much Tango & Fallout's Further Intrigue in bass & programming. Side B has the classic NebulaII beep & flatline vocal, backed with some nice intro breaks before rolling into dark, almost Bizzy B style multi-layered beats, synths & basses, then breaks down & the Bay-B Kane influence shows with a rather unique bass warble before all rolling off into typical 93 madness.
Deformer - Slasher - 27-May-09 04:26 AM
Wicked underground DnB EP this - A Side's Slasher is a Hoover & bassdrum-heavy dark stepper, sounding more like some of Noisia & Killswitch's more recent work than a 2001 production. Side B1 Chopperbeat is aptly named, sounding similar to an updated Bizzy B style of mashed & chopped amens backed with some nice dark hoover stabs, beaking down into moody synths & bleeps before once again rinsing out into nutty almost Psycho-style stabs. B2 Freaksta is typical 2001-style dark synth stab bass-filled DnB stepper featuring the nice MC talents of Mike Redman (now on Rotterdam Records aka Deformer).
Lloyd Owes Me A Packet - The Pounder - 25-Mar-09 09:43 AM
What a wicked piece of early Luke Slater Techno we have here - two simply slammin mixes of 'The Pounder'. Side A is the heavier driving & grindy analogue bangin mix which just keeps kicking & winding in and out of wicked bass-heavy layered 909 drum patterns. Side AA is slightly stripped down version, which highlights the fat analogue synth very well but adds some almost sinister synths for extra atmosphere. Not much released like this EP for another year or so - could almost be on Dutch/Belgian labels in '92 and not be out of place - far ahead of it's time. The analogue grinder is sampled in 'Locked In Madness' by The Future on Music Man [MMI 9049].
DJ Pooch - Volume Two - 31-Jan-09 12:51 AM
Another brilliant EP from DJ Pooch this. Side A is a wicked beat mash of Quadrophonia stabs, pianos & synths, timestretched vocals (the old classic 'Hey YayYeeeaah') - was remixed heavily and beefed further with T99 choirstabs in Volume three, but this is an excellent original mix. Side AA is basically a rough '93 amen-heavy mix of the classic 'New Science EP' by DSKF released in 1992. Pooch has taken the classic elements of tha track - the amazing piano section that got many a '92 raver to go crazy (wihtout ever knowing the title), the echoed stabs and vocals, added deep subbass, beefed the backing and beats to give it a faster '93 feel without turning it into a 'chipmunk special' - great EP.
