Reviews & Discussion:

Released in 1977, this was the last official T.Rex album. The album coincided with the rise of the punk movement. Marc Bolan had influenced many of the pretty punk boys and the tour to promote the album included one of the leading punk bands The Damned as support act. The album itself had a cleaner sound than its immediate predecessor Futuristic Dragon, but sill included Marcs experimentation with the synth.
The opening and title song Dandy in the Underworld was a dramatic interpretation of how Bolan viewed his own fall from grace full of regret for wasted youth and cocaine nights. In reality this was the year Marc returned from the dead with a new credibility and a new lease of life.Slimmer healthier and meaner sounding. The album and tour was well recieved by critics, with the advent of the new wave meant that many a Bolan fan was in the driving seat of the music business. This was the album which marked a clear turning point in Bolans career, sadly, he died just six months after its release. A fine album from one of the most influencial perfomers of the 1970s
Disco Volante was a one piece group formed in the early 1980s, the reason for the group name being that the plan was to expand the band with time. The "band" played in small experimental clubs in London using backing tapes, the chaotic feel of the live performance can be felt in the last track "Punishment Tank"

This was the first single released in June 1984, unfortunately the release date co-incided with a 6 week strike by the music press and shortly afterwards the distributer went bust. Because of this any planned follow up singles failed to emerge.

The instrumentation for the studio tracks is totally programmed using the Roland Bassline and Drummatix and other Roland synths. The Bassline become the favoured toy of the Acid House generation.

The feel was meant to be "electronic punk", but the final mix was not as agressive as had been hoped, due probably to the cheap recording studio used.

The songs refelcted a dark side of life, No Motion being about the sometimes neglected needs of the disbled whilst Click is a slice of Psycho ! As a songwriter Terry Tanx refused to use the word love in any of his lyrics.

Muscal influences range from Marc Bolan, Marc Almond, Velvet Underground and the Banshees, however the sound is largly a product of a "non musician" being creative with the latest technology.

The sleev arework was by Steev Burgess a follow synth boy whose group Metrophase were an influence.
