Nite Life - 23-Oct-06 08:28 AM
Just four releases, but definitely a classic label, representing the gritty lo-fi, rough and minimal sound of early 90s chicago house. The first three releases should not be missed as they feature some of the best and most imaginative tracks of the era - Paul Johnsons Come On Children or Men At Work, Drewskys Temper Tantrum or La Drid Austins You Got To Move. NL 004 appeared a few years after the first three with a different artwork and a beefed up, slightly more conventional sound.
Shifted Phases - The Cosmic Memoirs Of The Late Great Rupert J. Rosinthrope - 28-Jul-06 11:55 AM
For me this is one of the best techno albums ever recorded. It certainly is the high point of James Stinsons much too brief exploration of digital sound generation. The tracks oscillate between harsh digital percussive noises and warm analogue harmonics, showing off the abundant musicality that set Stinson light years apart from his imitators. Never too simple, never too anxious, always straight to the heart. R.I.P.
Richard X - Promos His X-factor Volume No. 1 - 02-Sep-05 07:30 PM
Strange story about a guy getting all the hoots for creating the absurdity of bastard pop and the second he records a solid album like this one, everyone pretends theyve never heard of him. Lemon/Lime rocks, and so does You Used To (in those sappy moments). Go Richard!
Egyptian Lover - Party - 18-Mar-05 11:53 PM
Great return to form for the Egyptian Lover: Banging minimal electro, featuring all his trademark vocals and oriental harmonies - only that this most definitely sounds like 2005 with a super crisp production and up-to-date sound design!
Erik Travis - IOS - 20-Jan-05 11:00 AM
Excellent release - combines Erik Travis serious rhythm work with some luscious Mad Mike freestyle funk. Heard this was done without Eriks consent and that he wasnt too happy with it, but thats just rumours.
