"Fast" Eddie Smith

You could say Fast Eddie represented a sidestream of early stage house. Hiphouse. Not only did he represented Hiphouse but he was also a leader in the genre.
Don't know if hiphouse is really dead yet but a revival is always around the corner. Fast Eddie did put hiphouse on the map when house music was new and fresh and in a time when there was only 4-5 different house styles. His great succes also contributed to the house scene as a whole making him one of the pioneers making house music rise. The crossover between house and rap mended that house music was expending amoung youth who also liked hiphop or was growing up with hiphop and discovering house music through the legacy of Fast Eddie. Beside his great contribution to house music as a whole, his music is quality stuff. A bit outdated now but it's full of energy and you can hear the joy from Fast Eddie in making the music. Sometime with no consession an putting acid in your face. "This is acid, you like it, you know it, now react!". Fast Eddie is and was a great artist and will not be forgotten. A well deserved place in house history.

It's a shame really that someone who had a release on the famous Incognito label, turned total commercial later on in the 90's with the Low Spirit label.
Releasing one bad song after another. Looks like all the artists on the Low Spirit Label turned very commercial after becoming active in the undeground circuit. Like Westbam who had some great early releases (and party). Marusha totally went commercial, blinded by making money and deaf to the awfull songs she released. Shame!

Listen to the kevin Saunderson mix and you know why you love deep house.
This great mix of a great song and a great woman with a beautiful voice. Never heard this song other than on my own record. A hidden diamond? Let it stay that way. Discover this treasure yourself. It is not a in your face garage song but nicely dubbed out studio work but that is what it gives it's deep sound. The Kevin Saunderson mix is really old skool style mix. More a 1988 mix than an 1995 song. Incredible release on the After Dark label. This is hard-core garage house. It's rocking and it's bad.
This release does not do any consessions to your ears. You wanted garage, you get garage attitude. Raw and uncut almost. If you are a real underground garage lover make sure you add this release in your collection. You'll love it. | ||||
Slowly but steady he is turning more and more commercial.
The latest in his effort to make more and more money (how much is enough) he is now turning to you. Yes you.
He is coming after you if you dear to download his music. Yes you read it right: he and his record company wants to sue people if you download his music. Through his record company Armada Music he is ready to sue you if you download (!) his music.
As if he is not rich enough.
Very strange because his succes as a dj is also generated through internet and the internet community. If it wasn't for internet and we the music lovers he was next to nothing in the music industry. So he should be very grateful for us the music lovers and internet.
But no he's going to sue you.
Thanks a lot "music lover".
Watch your wallet. Armin van Buuren is in the house.
