BJ Nilsen* - Fade To White - 25-Oct-05 05:00 AM
highly recommended haunting ambient music. often tinged with hints of violence. although austere, the album is never boring, and continuously strikes chilling chords that push forward to some subliminal human destination
CocoRosie - Noah's Ark - 18-Sep-05 02:51 AM
Blissfully essential, experimental yet melodic strokes of pop genius from these sisters from Brooklyn (no they're not French). Surpassing their debut album "La Maison de Mon RĂªve" in both beauty and focus, yet never losing sight of the profundity of simple melodic arrangements that we were introduced to on La Maison.
If you are a fan of contemporary music, you must own this album. Spanning the gap from indie rock to ambient to experimental, this essential release is some of the best new music around.
Eluvium - Talk Amongst The Trees - 23-Jul-05 11:31 AM
some of the best ambient you'll ever hear. put it on before bed and you're guaranteed not to make it past the first song. this album rivals biosphere's substrata and max richter's blue notebooks. utterly essential.
Yasume - Where We're From The Birds Sing A Pretty Song - 29-Apr-05 02:34 AM
an utterly sublime electronic release. the beauty of this album literally chills my body. not one moment sounds tired, not one song drags on. the majestic, melodic soundscapes of yasume's debut colloboration are for everyone. essential listening.
Biosphere - Autour De La Lune - 04-Jan-05 05:04 AM
It's unfortunate to read all the negative reviews above. Perhaps the above readers have the wrong perspective. Biosphere may not be giving them something they expected to hear, but he is giving us something altogether different - and it is grand.
Most importantly, Autour De La Lune simply must be heard on headphones to really "hear" it, or else one is bound not to perceive its true depth. All the subtle sounds carefully placed have the effect of expanding the brain and opening it up to a unique sonic experience. Turn on a blacklight, pop in Autour De La Lune on headphones and sit quietly in meditation for twenty minutes and you will feel the impressions and effects of Autour De La Lune; it is sublime. You can never ever lose with Biosphere before bedtime, he is the ambient master.
