W.B.* - Hide You Im Schrankwand Gewand - 13-Oct-05 06:40 AM
This is some brilliant stuff right there. The almost narcotic rework of Wesseltofts timeless "You Might Say" is incredibly beautiful in its ethereal atmosphere of sparse clicks, piano keys and breathy vocal, flip over for the ominous sub-bass drift on the B-side and Kosheens "Hide You" will never sound the same again. Sincere and emotional music with that unique Wighnomy Brothers tongue-in-cheek treatment, full marks.

Paul Kalkbrenner - Tatü-Tata - 05-Aug-05 01:19 PM
Brilliant comeback for Paul Kalkbrenner. Side A has to be the largest track ever to come out from Bpitch, or hell, the largest track committed to vinyl after Spieth dropped his mighty Under Pressure on Speicher 8. Anyway, I was baffled when I heard Ellen close her Sónar promo set with this monster. Its-- just-- huge-- and I mean HUGE, huge drums creating an omnipotent marching rhythm, huge soaring synths, roaring handclaps and an ecstatic vocal on top, definite stadium material. Tatü-Tata is a moody, hypnotic slice of Kalkbrenners signature drum programming that builds into a pulsating groove carrying a melancholic melody, deep and dark stuff and a splendid track in its own right, but inevitably overshadowed by the flipside. Killer.

Roman Flügel - Geht's Noch? - 08-Jun-05 11:32 AM
Not as disastrous as claimed, but off the mark by a mile given Flügels usual standards. The mans original is a self-indulging lazy bass stomper that plods through its nearly 7 minutes with little change, accompanied by hi-hats a plenty, a thoroughly cringeworthy cowbell (wtfs with that?) and the infamous ecstatic faux-rave hook. Pretty, uh... iffy. Flipside is where the money is, with Dominik Eulberg providing a smart and snappy rendition that even makes the childish squeak surprisingly tolerable, although the tracks 8 minutes are still a bit long to sit through. Get a grip, Roman.

Vitalic - Fanfares - 04-Nov-04 05:11 PM
Sure, this is not Poney EP, but most definitely not crap either. The trademark Vitalic powertools are still present, except that this time the man has opted for odd murky shuffle rhythms that are a far cry from Poneys sleekness. The cuts weigh more than youd expect, however, with Godzilla drums and synths screaming blue murder all over the place, essential mayhem. Opener Fanfares is an excellent Vitalic rocker; overall, whoever dismisses this as shite should immediately get his ears checked.

Dzheimz & Ninja - Newdancebeat - 18-Oct-04 08:41 PM
Although overlooked by many, this release marks THE defining point in Estonian drum and bass. While other early producers in the scene carefully resorted to fiddling around with simple sound structures that were already hopelessly aged, Dzheimz & Ninja were far ahead, first releasing the brooding, albeit a bit simplistic Gas Mask LP under their Probe alias and then moving on to produce the seminal Newdancebeat. Bleak, growling, fast and ultra-powerful, almost industrial - back in the day, these tracks sounded unlike anything heard before and were an impressive testament to these guys talent and creativity. Both releases disappeared from the market in no time and have been extreme rarities ever since.

Four years have passed and Newdancebeat is still yet to be matched. Absolutely essential.
