Reviews & Discussion:
Only Mike Banks himself would be able to make, what is in my opinion, the greatest of all records even better with this live version. This version, although obviously the same cut as the original, replaces the synthesised saxophone that is predominant throughout the song with a live saxophonist. The results are spellbounding. The other noticeable difference involves the addition of a gorgeous piano line replacing the acid line, that features on the original track. Again, this truly adds that extra touch of class to an already beautiful song. I cannot recommend this track enough. An absolute must have!! Many thanks to Mike and the crew for releasing this.
Mr Yost proves once again why he is among the most consistent and innovative producers of deep house music that the scene has to offer, with the release of this exceptional and sublime release. His use of live instruments, intricate rhythms and gorgeous melodies are once again demonstrated to full effect, particularly with the opening track "Two Wrongs Making A Right", which for me is the ep's highlight. From the opening instrumental intro, through to when the baseline drops (which is certainly one of the most beautiful moments i have ever heard in any record), this song will enlighten you from beginning to end. The ep continues with "Do You Dream" which is another uptempo house track, with yet another fantastic baseline, gorgeous use of synth lines and the addition of a female vocal adding a special touch to this track. The B-Side begins with "Swingin'", a rather different affair compared to the rest of the ep. His use of live instrumentation throughout the track is certainly at the forefront, however the addition of a rather adventurous style of looped, twisted beats and rhythmns make this track perhaps maybe not as accessible as the others, but certainly not any less intersting or user friendly. The ep closes with the simply fantastic and gorgeous track "Days Like These". This truly is a track to finish any set or night off perfectly. Deep house music at it's very, very best. This song (and indeed ep) epitomises everything that is good about Kevin Yost, and what sets him apart from many in his field. An absolutely essential ep!!
Absolutely fantastic compilation from Nick Holder. Cover's a wide selection of styles ranging from jazzy, latin styled house (Sandi Flores - "El Ray" and Nick's very own track -"Beyond Your Dreams" (which happens to be one of the finest house records produced in my opinion)), through to soulful cuts courtesy of the Rurals, Richard Worth and Solar House. Kyoto Jazz Massive's remix of the Jazzanova track "Fedime's Flight" is also a very welcome addition to any compilation. A very impressive and solid compilation throughout. | ||||
