Profile: Started buying dance music in Dublin in 1993 and was mainly influenced by the tracks being played on pirate radio stations such as Sunset FM at the time.
I had an interest in broadcasting, and was lucky to be offered radio shows on a number of dance stations. One of the biggest at the time was Club FM 106.4 (later called "The Vibe") where I did a weekly Saturday show from 1995 until it closed in 1998.
In 2000, I ran a fully automated radio station (from my parent’s house!) called Dream FM. I also created the web sites and logos for a number of stations including ESG FM, which was later called "Energy 94” (www.energy94.net). I did radio shows on many of these stations and I mostly played classics / retro / old skool dance (whatever you want to call it!).
The last station I was involved with was Galaxy FM 91.6 where I did a weekly show called "Retro Beats" in 2007. I've always shortened my name down to "John Dempsey" (Jon Dempsey) on air.
Where possible I have always tried to source music on CD - which can be a real pain at times! Unfortunately I've only had time to list a fraction of my collection here on Discogs. To get the rest of it listed is on my to-do list, honest! :)
As you can see from the collection, I'm interested in many different styles of dance music – from the cheesy stuff (Pulse FM 103.2 style!), progressive / underground tunes (Super Q / Q95 / Power FM style) and even a bit of early hard house (before it went a bit too bland for me).
Apart from the 12" records, items from my collection are generally not for sale - but you never know.
Feel free to get in touch. The worst I can do is ignore you. :)
