Bob Dylan - Infidels - 14-Jan-07 05:44 AM
Although this is not widely recognized as an outstanding Bob Dylan album, I have always considered some of these songs on here to be amongst my favorites. I have fond memories of listening to this album throughout the whole of my life. Again, Dylan is an excellent lyricist, particularly the song Jokerman reminds me of all the over-the-top, poetic nature of Bob Dylan songs.

Neighborhood Bully and Licence To Kill are also classic Dylan songs. Overall, this album always stands out to me as some of his best work.

Anti Squad - Indonesian Proud - 19-Jul-06 02:12 PM
I find myself often revisiting this album -- it is a terrific release, from the opening song Uncle Skin to the closing, Indonesiaku; the album is very enjoyable and I find that even though the vocals are odd at first (very deep, growling) they are very complimenting to the music and make the band more distinguishable and unique.

The bass and drums particularly come together well in the recordings, with the bass being a very traditional, walking-bass style that you do not get in a lot of punk or Oi releases, making it very mature and giving it a bit of a throwback to the rock and roll era, though the rest of this is 100% Oi to your liking.

The lyrics are surprisingly good (and honest) for being from an Indonesian band (all songs are in English except Indonesiaku). This really is a great addition to your collection, and I think years from now it will be regarded as the first international Indonesian release of skinhead music, so it is a must for record collectors.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy.

Crying Nut - 1집-말달리자 - 16-Jul-06 10:32 PM
This release is commonly pointed to as being the first Korean punk release of any significance, if not the very first full length release in Korean punk history. This release also received a lot of recognition in the Korean media for the title song, 말달리자 (meaning Lets Run, Horses!) and the song 갈매기(Seagal).

말달리자 deals with the stresses facing young Koreans and the emptiness of studying, working hard, and seemingly towards no goal or end, and that real pleasure comes from loving & living, and that in the midst of stress and disappointment, all one can do is run and be as a horse, escape the day-to-day pains. The music video and song became instantly loved by many young Koreans who never even followed that far into the punk scene because it spoke to their minds, and is a very exciting, stirring song -- many people instantly recognize it. Crying Nut was an instant phenomenon because Korea had no previous exposure to it.

갈매기 is a very depressing and sad balladesque song that sings more about the troubles of Korean youths and their relationships with their parents, dealing again with pressure to succeed and to marry into a good house for females. It is a painful song that hints at wanting to turn into a bird and fly away.

The album is very good and the sound is pretty polished, but it is such a breakthrough record for Korean punk music that provided the scene with its recognition in Korean society. Anyone who has an interest in punk music at all should pick it up.

Vanilla Muffins, The - Sugar Oi! Come On! - 16-Jul-06 10:32 PM
This 7" is still my favorite one to date -- each song on the album is extremely good, and a great preview of the band. I bought this 7" after having downloaded previously a few albums by the band, and then it became more than obvious that these guys had something to offer -- upon receiving this 7" I subsequently bought every album I could find by them and was not disappointed at all.

All three songs are great, but B1 is definitely the highlight, and it remains one of my favorite songs to date. It is sung expertly and all of the music is very well harmonized. Vanilla Muffins really do sum up their self-proclaimed style of sugar Oi here, being that the songs are very much true to Oi music but do leave a sugary taste in the mouth.

I advise anyone who likes artists such as the Ramones or Cock Sparrer to immediately get this release (and other releases) by the Vanilla Muffins.

Oi! Valcans - Music Is Oi! - 20-Jun-06 01:03 PM
This is a very classic release that opened up Japanese Oi! to me as a whole, and really struck me powerfully. I did not know that the Japanese made such rocking skinhead music -- it resulted in me getting into different Japanese bands and kind of acted as a gateway for me (even though by far this is not the first Japanese skin release). This is still, to date, one of my favorite releases and has a lot of classic songs.

Tracks 8 & 9 are classics that roll right into one another, real crowd pleasers that always get me pumped up and ready to rock.

This is a must have for anyone who likes Punk or Oi! music at all, and a great collectors item for anybody. Lets hope the Oi! Valcans keep on making great music.
