Bok Bok - Southside EP Aug 03, 2011
This vinyl release is missing two tracks from the mp3. Not sure why, they're decent tracks IMHO. Just a thought.
I always thought the 'Evil' Eddie Richards mix made this worth checking out aswell.

Then just add six extra words...oh you did :)
Untold - I Can't Stop This Feeling Feb 03, 2011 (edited about 1 year ago)
For anyone into the more leftfield side of techno waiting to see what shape the infulence of dubstep might take check this release out. Actually the whole of the output from Hessle Audio might be of interest. Untold sidestep the path troden of dub-techno and come up with something....I'm tempted to say.. new. If that is at all possible. And like all new stuff there are strong links with the past. I love 'Anaconda' it's pretty nutty, a bit ravey with some dub elements....but don't listen to me rambeling, listen to the track!
Countzero* - Silent Prayer May 27, 2010 (edited about 1 year ago)
Like a lot of my favourite music I first encountered this on a mix tape. No big name DJ, a mate of a mates tape and I don't really ever remember hearing it at any of the events at the time, but regardless, it stood out as quality acid house. To put this into perspective, my tastes in electronic music were shaped at one point in full by the big name DJ's; Carl Cox, Mickey Finn, Jumping Jack Frost, Chocci, Evil Eddie Richards, Mr C, Sasha, DJ Hype, Fabio + Grooverider and so on. I was always searching for the records they played as it seemed to me that the stuff they didn't play was invairably no good. But on hearing this, I was confident enough to make a judgement on my own. Until it apeared in a list here recently I had no idea what the track was either and to my suprise was produced Richard H Kirk.
There is more than a hint of Adonis in the main acid line to good efect layered over a thudding kick drum. Add to this another more fevered acid riff and an aray of samples ranging from what sounds like the pipes from Headhunter (Herbie Hancock) to a slightly strange 'hey yey' vocal and presto, everyones a winner! also I was pleasently supprised that this wasn't on TRAX records. Proper acid.
Coki - Spongebob / The End Jul 29, 2008 (edited about 1 year ago)
Spongebob is a relentlessly warped piece of dubstep. If 808 state had made Cubic without any varation of the notes so that they repeted except for a wobble at the end, sounding like someone rubbing their finger on the label of the record, quickly slowing, then speeding up the pitch of it, you get the idea of the brutality in the simplicity of this receord. Then it stops, and where you might expect some kind of gear change, pounds on just like before. I like it!
Luke Slater's 7th Plain* - The 4 Cornered Room Apr 18, 2008 (edited over 2 years ago)
Inspireational, interesting, haunting, strange and beautiful album. Real Life Ceremony is the standout track for me.
Evolution Bridge - Simplicity / Meree In Two Mar 15, 2006 (edited over 2 years ago)
There is no release date info on the record anywhere but having heard it on a tape mixed alongside Blapps possie 'Don't Hold Back' and Mike Dunn 'Magic Feet' so at a guess I would date it somewhere around 1990. The A side, 'Simplicity' contains a sample from a Simple Minds track (not sure which one) hence the title. This sample drives the tune which is punctuated with an infectous vocal hook; 'keep the place hoppin'. This is one of those old tunes that failed to really developed a widespread reputation as an 'old skool classic' but quite easily might have. I like to think hasn't suffered because of this and retains a kind of 'best kept secret' status.
I had been searching for this for a while, as the opening chimes used to feature in the opening bed of Tim Westwoods friday rap show. I think they also appeared on a dj Rectangle battle weapon disk (which is, I guess, how they ended up in a montage for a rap(/hip-hop) show. After watching the 'cult classic' Donny Darko, with some special attention paid to the closing credits, I was able to put a track to the chimes.
The use of this song in Donny Darko is inspired. Watch it and see what I mean.
