Takagi Masakatsu - Coieda - 30-Jun-06 09:22 AM
'tis the prettiest thing I've heard in a while. Orchestral-y, idm/glitchy, jazzy, bossanova-y, post-rocky mishmash of prettyness that's glazed with some non-artificial sweetener. The sort of music that makes you enjoy life. Great playing with a live feel all throughout the record. My favorite is Exit/Delete.. and those marimbas on Cuba.
Jaga* - What We Must - 16-Jan-06 02:12 AM
Stardust Hotel: one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. When that line at 4:38 starts.. it never ever fails in giving me the shivers, sometimes the sheer beauty of it just makes me shed tears. I wasn't expecting anything (in a positive way, mind you) from this album, knowing how much the JJ output varies, but it's quickly becoming one of my favorite possessions, blending jazz, (prog- & post-)rock & electronica into a fairytale-like whole.
A very, *very* good album with an abundance of beautiful & moving melodies, top-notch playing & smooth work with getting all the different instruments & sounds to work together from start to end. Full of layers. Spotless production. Nordic quality. Go, cod-country, go!
Did I forget something? Oh yeah. HOT! TIP! BUY NOW!
Thomas Köner - Unerforschtes Gebiet - 10-Dec-03 06:34 PM
The tracklisting above corresponds to the picture LP version (DS43). The CD version has an extra track, "Les Soeurs Lumiére", that was composed for a film by Karen Vanderborght. The track is an interesting, half-an-hour journey through a story featuring two women; Stella, who lives in Belgium, and Lucia, who lives in Spain. The plot unfolds in the form of letters (postcards?) from Stella, who wants to become an astronaut -- Lucia's voice is only heard in the beginning, responding to the news of Stella's death.
All in all, Köner's always-evolving, distant sound accompanies the story perfectly, and the track makes an excellent addition to the mesmerizing accomplishment that is "Unerforschtes Gebiet", Uncharted Territories.
Frank And Bill - VIVA FAB! - 28-Apr-03 02:59 AM
Side A sounds great at both 33 1/3 and 45rpm!
Recoil - Liquid - 10-Apr-03 04:45 PM
I can't probably recommend this record enough. I got it the day it was released back in 2000 and it still sounds very fresh. The production is crystal clear, the vocalists are amazing and the "story"-like tracklisting add up to be one of my favorite records of all time. If you like dark moody stuff with hiphop flavours and are armed with an open mind, this is a record definitely to get and keep. Favorite tracks: Chrome and Breath Control.
