Timo Maas - Shifter Jan 29, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
Sometimes there are artists that are different from the rest, because their own vision of music or because they just have what it got to make almost every release a major hit. Timo Maas is definitely one of that small group artists. He has got a unique style of music, he surprises you every time again, and that's the reason why he can contract stars like Kelis (the voice of "Help Me").This release (less famous than "Help Me"), is a perfect example: a nice breakbeat, a female voice and some trancy samples (one that may remind you of Doomsday (Azzido Da Bass) in some kind of way though it's not the same one). This is the kind of record that can be played in many sets: trance, techno, breakbeat, house,... Did I say "can"? I meant "should"!
Da Rick - Attention Jan 28, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
A real stomper and one of the first releases in "jump"-style. If you hear this track you will immediately recognise a retro-sample, it's taken from Plexus – Cactus Rhythm. It's not the melody of Plexus though, Da Rick (a formation with Da Boy Tommy) took a couple of short samples of it and created a new "melody". He added a typical heavy jump-kickdrum and also the voice (attention...dirty low slut tramp bitch hoe...suck my motherf*cking dick) of Ice-T, the famous rapper. A good track, my opinion: the best (and first) one Da Rick made, his others weren't that great.
Mr Sam* - Pressurize Jan 26, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
Mr.Sam is well known to many trance/techno fans, for this release he got inspired by two other tracks. It all starts with the drum-sample taken from Submission (Women beat their man), then comes a break with a sample taken from Corvin Dalek's Pounds & Penz. He used these samples, added some trancy tunes and made a nice trancetrack, but definitely not his best one. Taking samples of two major tracks isn't the formula for a hit, though he did a nice try. Conclusion: a good track but if you got the original tracks (Women beat their man & Pounds & Penz), you won't play this one.
Vitalic - Poney EP Remastered Jan 20, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
This release was brought out again as "remastered" due to the success of the B1-track, La Rock 01, though the other tracks are fantastic as well. La Rock 01 has just got it all, an unbelievable mix of electro and techno that can be used in sets of different kind of styles, even in a tranceset if you want. The whole track is perfect, a nice build-up to a climax of electrosounds which will make you move, if you want or not! A little break then...and back to that climax again, you'd wish it would never stop! This is my favorite track ever, my second favorite doesn't even come close. Electro has found a new God!
Tone King - Pneu Jan 19, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
First let me talk about the B-side, the original mix. It's a simple, but one hell of a track! He doesn't use much samples: a kickdrum, a basic electrosample which he made a simple, short but great "melody" with, a hi-hat and that's just about all. The track builds up slowly, the electrosound keeps growing during the 8 minutes that this track takes. Absolutely fantastic! For those who think that the original mix is too soft...check out the A-side: the Insider remix, as we know from Insider, the man likes heavy kickdrums and with this remix it's not different. Take the brilliant stuff of the B-side, ad a stompin' kickdrum and a rhythm that makes you think of a train on full speed... that's what Insider did, he made a fantastic techno-remix in his own typical style. This record is definitely one of my favorites.
Unknown Artist - The Wall Jan 19, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
I've got notting against artists that use a 80's hit and make a new version of it, but I'm getting sick of all those "artists" who abuse those hits just for making money. I mean, it's every time the same crap: a trancy loop with a kickdrum for about a minute, then it all stops and the original track fades in, the kickdrum etc. starts again and the same one-liner keeps repeating so much that you want to grab a shotgun a kill your stereo.
This is my feeling about many tracks these days, but... it was a real pleasure to hear this subliminal remix of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" coming through the speakers. I have no idea who made it but that person knew what it's all about, and in this case that meant "keep it simple". A simple kickdrum with a clap and a repeating electrosample that give this track his identity. Finally the samples of Pink Floyd (not filtered!!!) that were used just perfect. There is also the sound of an overflying helicopter and the voice of a German man (first I thought it was Hitler but that makes no sense in the track so it must be some kind of politician at the time of the Berlin Wall I guess), I'm not sure but I think it's not coming from Pink Floyd. This track might be future retro.
To all the "artists" that I mentioned in the first part of my comment: listen to this, learn and try to create something that's coming close to this level or get out, stop wasting my life with your dozen-in-a-box crappy on money based "wannabe-hits"!
Les Sauvages - Tainted Love Jan 18, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
A remake of the super 80's hit from Soft Cell. Let me say that nothing is better than the original one, but Les Sauvages wanted to make a try and they did not bad, if you listen to their Original Mix, you might feel like your listening to a track of Praga Khan, the voice of Dave Davis let's you think on the voice of Maurice Engelen. You feel that Les Sauvages did their best to make this track super but I guess they failed... Maybe it is because the original is so fantastic... you just don't take any less when you hear the Soft Cell-version.
Silvio Ecomo - No-Dip Jan 17, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
No Dip was (is) an unbelievable track, using samples from John Coltrane's (a world famous jazz artist) number "A Love Supreme". Silvio Ecomo added a stompin' kickdrum to it and so he made a fantastic jazzy techno hit, loved by many.
BBC Traxx - The Truth Jan 16, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
First and only track from "BBC", a (former) famous club in Sint Niklaas, Belgium. Nice trancy track with a film-based voice in the break, it's the voice of Samuel Jackson taken from the movie "Unbreakable", when he talks to Bruce Willis about his true identity (...you're searching for the meaning of all of this so you can finally understand the destiny for what you were born...are you ready for the truth?).
Natural Born Deejays - A Good Day Jan 14, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
A real trancehit in Belgium in 1996. A long intro with various samples taken from a reanimation-scene that took place in the movie "Flatliners", tranzy noises and a break with the voices of the students who try to reanimate their friend after an experiment in which they "kill" themselves to see if there is anything after death. This break is absolutely fantastic, just listen to it!!! The rest of the track is also great, one of my alltime favorites!
