Frank Zappa - You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 3 - 01-May-08 07:56 PM
Alright I only have 1 thru 3, but this volume shines above the rest so far. I think it comes from the medley of tracks 1 thru 9 on the first disc - Frank Zappa loses control and laughs his way thru Bobby Brown and Keep It Greasy. It's a hilarious insight into the band's personal interplay. It also contains a rare "Drowning Witch" that comes the closest to playing it correctly. Yeah! That's right! Read the title again - you can't do this on stage anymore!
Yoko Ono - Starpeace - 22-Nov-07 06:43 PM
This record made me feel like a child again. This record helped me get over stupid inhibitions about what I thought was cool and what wasn't cool. This record made me start asking people what they thought of Yoko Ono, invariably following up with why they disliked her, and mentioning this record. This record makes me laugh all the time, sometimes at Yoko's vocal delivery (so unassumingly odd), sometimes at the whole concept of the song. But don't get me wrong, this record is good-good, not bad-good. These are songs, not squawkings. And even though I'm still getting all of it, why do I get the feeling that this record is better than all of the Plastic Ono Band output?
Kool Keith - Matthew - 31-Aug-06 09:37 AM
This record may stand out as the crowning achievement, album-wise, by Keith Thornton aka Kool Keith, who summed up a couple of years of angst against the music industry in this definitive DISS record. This is the type of material that overpowers any hip-hop, past or present, and Keith's delivery maintains a machine gun cadence throughout, whereas with other albums he changes up style so much. While the album flows as a whole solidly, check out "Back Stage Passes", "Extravagant Traveler", "Shoes n Suits", and the hilarious "Recoupment [Skit]" for some of Keith's best lyrics.
Peaches - Impeach My Bush - 30-Aug-06 03:40 AM
While it may be fashionable these days to diss everything vaguely reminiscent of electroclash, "Impeach My Bush" is a better album than her last, and she neatly splits the album between Berliner beats and the rock stuff. I prefer the former, like on tracks "Slippery Dick", "Tent In Your Pants", and "Stick It To The Pimp". Let's not forget that this is one the FEW artists to stick their neck out in a political vein, OK? And if you're not into pornocore, why listen?
