Round One - I'm Your Brother - 08-Mar-08 01:54 AM
Tell me if Im wrong but the Chicagos Twisted Mix by Ron T. and Chez D. must have been pretty influential as far as the emerging Maurizio sound was concerned. Listen to the deep string slowly fading up and feel the ever growing resonating minimal chord. Its almost all there. The Maurizio guys got inspired and took the whole Prescription sound, but particularly this track, even further into modern times (no vocals, colder sound) and dub.

Various - Until The End Of The World (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) - 06-Jun-07 06:15 AM
Somehow, I never fully appreciated the work of Wim Wenders as a film maker, but you have to admit that his musical tastes are very good.
Take this soundtrack. Here you have the cream of the pop and rock scenes from the 1980s trying to catch the mood of the Apocalypse, as the title of the movie suggests.
My favorite ones are Julee Cruise, accompanied by fellow musicians David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti, giving a Twin Peaks treatment to an Elvis song, Crime and The City Solution and Nick cave who sound more tragic than ever, rock legend Patti Smith whose poetry is underlined by a minimal but haunting background and, last but not least, the hypnotizing voice of Jane Sibery putting light in the obscurity of this album.
Furthemore, most of the tracks are exclusive to this release.

Various - Nova Fait Son Cinéma - 29-Apr-07 02:12 PM
"Nova fait son cinéma" started as a radio show in the mid 1990s with Nicolas Saada playing his personal collection of sought after discs. It became quite popular over the years attracting listeners from very different musical backgrounds.
It is also a wonderful CD celebrating the 10th anniversary of the show. Apart from the beauty of the music, what strikes most is the ability of the selector to run through all emotional states, melancholy, joy, nervousness, just like in a good movie.
One has to play this CD, relax and enjoy the most talented score makers, known or unknown, venturing in classical (Hermann), jazz (Morricone), electronic (Carpenter), light music (Cosma) and so on...

Kid Koala - Emperors Main Course In Cantonese - 20-Feb-07 12:00 PM
Ok Emperors Main Course is a great tune but its only a version of the original track by David Byrne, with added beats and a few scratches here and there. Do yourself a favour and buy The Last Emperor OST, youll have great music from Byrne and Sakamoto.

Various - Global Guidance Part Two - 15-Feb-07 07:58 PM
I bought this record for the sole I-level track, easily one of my favorite house track at the time (though I couldnt identify it when heard in clubs or on the radio). Hypnotic chords, a deep 4/4 beat with claps every 2 step, a bass line à la Larry Heard, and you get an excellent base for evolving ideas.
Luckily, you can find an extended version of it on [r=769]
