Squarepusher - Venus No. 17 - 01-Mar-05 05:11 AM
arguably the best record of 2004. venus no. 17 was a delight when it was on the ultravisitor bonus 3", and since i already had that, expectations werent high for a single of it. the acid mix is incredible though, and tundra 4 is simply an epic triumph in tom jenkinsons superb, wide-ranging career. excellent, excellent record.

Meam - The L - 19-Feb-05 08:12 AM
i couldnt have said that better myself; the meam record is one of skams finest moments to date. meam did a set for the skam night on the one world radio show. its a continuous 13-minute piece which contains some of the beats and sounds showcased here but has some gorgeous melodies and beats. as good if not better than this record (if you can find a recording of it).

Tatamax - Fairy Glen Appearances - 19-Feb-05 03:46 AM
one of my favorite releases over the past few months. this cassette really has some brilliant and haunting production. apparently their live performance at ATP 2003 was quite remarkable as well. once you listen to this tape, itll be easy to imagine them putting on a great show. they played with gasmasks so as to keep their identity secret - this in addition to skam reporting that before ATP 2003 they had never met tatamax; only communicated via mail with them. tatamax allegedly refuse to use telephones or the internet.

Shadow Huntaz - Corrupt Data - 13-Mar-04 11:48 PM
Skams full-length entrance into the hip hop world is nothing short of stunning. This album is excellently produced and highly enjoyable to listen to. If youre not into Skams trademark glitches, fear not, you wont find too much chaos on here; just excellent beats and rhymes. "CDC" is by far my favorite and will be hard done by if there are many more tracks released this year of the same caliber.

Prefuse 73 - One Word Extinguisher - 05-Mar-04 04:00 PM
Brilliantly assembled full-length selection of beats and melodies from Scott Herren; this was definitely the 2003 summer album. A lot of the tracks work well individually, but its best listened to in its entirety. Perverted Undertone is an absolute classic; other favorites of mine include Daves Bonus Beats, the second untitled track at the end, The End of Biters - International, Storm Returns. Dont forget the companion mini-album "Extinguished: Outtakes," another sensational composition.
