Underground Solution - Luv Dancin' - 27-Nov-07 05:48 PM
Hi all Yes, this track by the S-Man is really something special; a real slice of musical genius on par with any other New York house or garage release. The track is widely recognised as one, if not the, deepest and sexiest piece of garage music ever put to wax, and one listen shows why. The bassline is hypnotic and funky, yet still deep and mellow. The vocal, which informs the title of the track, is taken from an equally legendary slice of underground dance music from New York City, a track by Loose Joints released on West End Records entitled Is It All Over My Face, which received a remix by the great Larry Levan, DJ at the Paradise Garage. The flutes, keys, and organ all provide a quite erotic mood in the track and its just amazing. The production is squarely aimed at the DJ floor, with appropriately timed breakdowns and track subtractions. Lastly, the sheer brilliance of this track is evinced by noting that it was made in 1990 - nearly 20 years ago. Damn Roger, you are truly the S-Man. RIP Levan, Arthur Russell, Walter Gibbons, and the Paradise Garage.
Prince - Dirty Mind - 06-Sep-07 09:38 PM
Dirty Mind is a really great album. Right from the first track, the intensly sexual mood of the record is apparent. The first side of the LP is interesting, yet, for me, it is only when the vinyl is flipped over that things really get interesting. Side B starts with the party slammer-jammer Uptown; this track is fantastic, just so much fun and good feelings. Then the next track, Head, is very steamy and erotic. All in all, a good album, yet, although with this album it was starting to become clear that Prince was no ordinary artist and that he possessed in abundance a talent for unique musical expression, it is still a long way behind the pop-funk juggernauts that were 1999 (1982) and Purple Rain (1984). Last word: get down on it, get down with your bad selves. Peace and love to all.
Kano - I'm Ready / Holly Dolly - 04-Sep-07 10:50 PM
In my opinion, this is one of the finest examples of disco music ever created. From the moment of the first hand clap until the conclusion of the song, I found I was thoroughly engaged, my interest never waning. It is just a very intense and beautiful track. Peace and love to all.
Boo Williams - A Little Something For You - 02-Sep-07 05:26 AM
This EP from Boo is really deep as deep house gets. Really spiritual, uplifting, pensive, thoughtful, moving, grooving, pleasing and simply special music. Its replete with Mr Williams signature bubbling basslines, as well as floating disco strings, lovely ethereal vibes, and solid, weighty kick drums. If you love life and love music then this will do it for you. Peace and love to the world.
Chemise - She Can't Love You - 22-Aug-07 02:24 AM
This track really hits the spot. Considering it was produced in 1982, this was some really forward looking music. The synth bassline, along with the phased snares and tripped out keys give this a nice spacey feel. The vocal is great also.
