Green Velvet - La La Land - 09-Nov-09 09:17 AM
La La Land, what a great track, hard jacking Chicago beats with tongue in cheek lyrics about pill popping...

Not what you get here. Ive owned maybe 20,000 records in my life with some dire remixes in there but the Futureshock remix is by far the worst remix I have ever heard. Truly they have slaughtered a great tune with a real travesty of a remix. The question is how can you turn something as great as La La Land into a weedy Muppet Trance track? It just beggars belief... Well the answer is you take a weak Muppet Trance track and play a bit of the accapella over the Muppet Trance track. Brilliant Futureshock, your skills are dazzling!

Who are Futureshock? No idea but I see their name a lot in the 50p bins. Kings of the 50p bin, kings of the wack remix. Well done Futureshock. You muppets.

Howard Blake And His Combo* - Hammond In Percussion - 02-Nov-09 09:14 AM
A rather ropey chEasy listening album except for a hidden gem, a killer funky version of the James Bond theme with skanking guitars, western shotgun effects and some very funky Hammond organ. The rest of the album is nothing short of offensively bad which assures you this will always end up in the pound bin - good news for you! Thats all there is to say except to bullshit a little to reach 75 words so I can submit this...

Various - Ragga Remixes (Vol. 1) - 24-Oct-09 03:40 PM
This is a stunning piece of wax - 4 top DJs take on Cypress Hills When the Shit Goes Down. The Top Cat tune has been released as Request the Style on his 9 Lives of the Cat LP, not sure about the others but each tune is a killer in its own right! My personal favourite is the Cutty Ranks tune but its really close on all of them! Absolute killer piece of dancehall wax.

Various - Stay Awake (Various Interpretations Of Music From Vintage Disney Films) - 13-Oct-09 05:45 PM
I expected this to be interesting as Hal Willners all star concept albums seem to be but this is almost entirely filled with lame covers. Some seriously cringeworthy moments here - "ooh ooh ooh I wanna be like you" - it seems that Los Lobos dont even know the words to the song they are doing let alone they are delivering a seriously puerile version !?! Sun Ras take on "Pink Elephants on Parade" is the shining star here and Tom Waits "Heigh Ho" isnt too bad but other than these the album is pretty weak...

Dr. Octagon - The Return Of Dr. Octagon - 25-Feb-09 09:44 AM
Considering Dr Octagynecologist is up there as one of the best hip hop records of the Nineties, it seems quite a surprise that the second Dr Octagon album comes close to being one of the worst hip hop albums of this decade, that is if it is hip hop. I couldnt really figure out if Kool Keith is on this or not or if it had been ghost written for him while he was whacking off somewhere. Either way the result is wank...
