LTJ Bukem - Mixmag Live! Vol. 3 - 18-Aug-09 03:25 PM
Hmmm, where to start? This is definitely the best of the Mixmag Live! series, by far.
Bukem starts us off with a sample from the show which gave us his moniker, Hawai'i 5-0, and that segues wonderfully into Fokus's brilliant track "On Line", then we go into a GLO classic with Seba and Lo-Tek's "Sonic Winds", a fantastic amen exercise that is full of atmospherics. Other stonking tracks follow, including Q-Project & Spinback (as the Funky Technicians) doing the essential "Airtight", a fantastic Photek track, and what quite possibly may be Intense's best work to date, "Streams of Thought".
It ends with the perfect track, Bukem's own "Music". Good god, what a mix! Definitely essential to ANYONE's collection, and a brilliant starting point for anyone who wants to hear Bukem's mixing skills.
Kraftwerk - Tour De France Soundtracks - 23-Feb-08 07:24 PM
Kraftwerk have been ahead of their time since they started recording in 1971, and this record proves it. It was 17 years since the release of Electric Café, and the boys returned to the recording studio for the 100th anniversary of the world's most grueling sporting event...And they capture the feeling of the race PERFECTLY. You can hear it in every subtle nuance of the first 5 tracks; The ticking cymbals that remind one of bike chains...The breathing of the racers...You can feel the speed and turns.
An album truly worth it for the first 5 tracks alone, but that's not to say that the rest of the album is a throw-away, no sir. "Vitamin" is a throw-back to classic 'Werk if there ever was one...Slow funky rhythm, awesome synth melody...Aero Dynamik & Titanium, like the first 5 tracks, slowly build into each other, and the remixed version of the original 1983 "Tour de France" is quite welcome here.
While not as groundbreaking as, say, Autobahn or Trans-Europe Express, this is an excellent addition to anyone's Kraftwerk collection, and album collection, period.
Dousk - Pa Dida / The Novel - 24-Sep-07 09:41 AM
Soon after the release of "Life Under/Mute", Greek wünderkind Dousk comes in with another 1-2 of punchy, atmospheric house...
It starts off with "Pa Dida": thumping drums, eerie atmospherics, deep-space noises interspersed; awesome keyboards and drumwork throughout. While not terribly interesting, the bass does its job. The Flip-side is "The Novel", a track that sounds like some deep-space construction project; slow-building atmospherics, wonderful harmonics in this one.
Even three years later, these tracks still sound fresh. Pick it up if you can find it!
DJ Fresh* Feat. Adam F - When The Sun Goes Down (Remixes) - 12-Jun-07 08:20 PM
Now, for the remixes...
Andy C and Ant Miles return for their take on "When the sun goes down" in their Origin Unknown guise...and it is suitably grimy. Deep bass, pounding drums...it's impossible not to move to this song.
Commix's version is very smooth & funky...nice atmosphere, good beats...
All in all, very good remixes!
Fresh - When The Sun Goes Down - 12-Jun-07 12:53 PM
Fresh does liquid!
Adam F and Fresh come storming in with a wonderful piece of Balearic Funky liquid. Perfectly jazzy, great vox, everything about it is wonderful.
The B-side is Dillinja's remix...heavy, bass lower than the Earth's core, pounding. An awesome take on an awesome song.
