Finitribe - Forevergreen - 04-Dec-05 05:31 AM
Had this CD only contained the 9 minute Intensity Mix of "101" this wouldve been a sure 5/5 from my part. Together with Justin Robertsons 12" Mix of "Birthday" by The Sugarcubes this is my favourite olskool track. Neither of the two sound fresh today, but they have a unique complexity and depth about them which I havent come across in any other olskool release. Extraterrestrial brilliance! Thank you Andrew and Justin!

Grooverider - Drum + Bass Revolution - 08-Oct-04 09:01 AM
Dont listen to this album on "primitive" sound systems (earplugs, cheap hi-fi, etc.), the sound quality of some of these tracks is absolutely awful, especially in the bass range. Nothing wrong with recording something live of course, but this is like "we dont give a f**k bout your listening experience!". When thats said, I really cant get enough of "Ra".
Ben Shaw - So Strong - 14-Sep-04 01:21 AM
For some reason the Fire crew decided not to add the Original Mix to the cd single, which in my opinion is sad since this version is the most groundbreaking and innovative. But “So Strong” was also put out on 3way/PIAS in the Netherlands as a 5 track cd single (so the rumour says anyway) including the four full versions of the song plus the Radio Edit of the original. It was put out in very, very limited numbers. A 1 track (Radio Edit) and a 2 track (Radio Edit + Sander Kleinenberg Mix) promo cd single also exist.
In 2002, after trying to find the 5 tracker all sorts’a places, I thus dropped PIAS a mail to find out if they could help me locate it. They couldn’t… (they actually replied, but only with a “Sorry, can’t help” kinda answer) In February 2003 I then tried the Discogs Music Forum to see if anyone could help me there. No luck there either…
Or no luck in the beginning it turned out, ‘cause on the 26th of March 2003 I received a mail from Ben Shaw himself offering me a cdr with the full length Original Mix!!! He had read what I wrote on the Music Forum!!! After some mails back and forth between the two of us I, on the 7th of April 2003, received a 6 track unmixed audio cdr from the man himself containing full length works by Ben Shaw/Sunscape.
Thanks to Ben Shaw, Discogs & the World Wide Web!!!
Various - Verve // Remixed² - 08-Apr-04 09:25 AM
If you like old skool vocal jazz then I highly recommend “Verve//Unmixed” and “Verve//Unmixed2”. They contain all the originals in the same order as on the two remixed albums (all 4 albums are 100% unmixed, so you can fool around with the tracks yaself). It is true though, that “Verve//Remixed” is a stronger release than “Verve//Unmixed2”, but in my humble opinion more than half of the tracks (1,3,4,5,8,11,12,13,14) are really good (read ‘excellent’), the rest of the tracks (except 6) are quite good. I think though, that the Felix Da Housecat and Layo & Bushwacka! remixes are disappointing though taken into consideration that these acts often provide the good shit. Also, the Jaffa remix fades in an annoying way, but hey… thumps up anyway! …and that includes all 4 discs.
Various - Heaven - Deep Trance Essentials - 01-Apr-04 07:54 PM
The release is slightly mixed although it promises to contain full versions only, also, Omid’s “Escape (Driving To Heaven)” track is about 2½ minute short of the original “Omid’s Full Vocal Mix”. Actually most tracks here are shortened more or less: Naughty, naughty 541!!! On the other hand this is the only place you can find “Love In Traffic - Satoshi Tomiie Dark Path” in a semi-close-to-full unmixed version, about 2 minutes missing here out of 12+ minutes. My point is: Don’t believe the hype…
