Dykehouse - Dynamic Obsolescence - 30-Mar-09 11:31 AM
Certainly not the best album ever, but by no means average or anything lower. This album is one of legend for those who can appreciate it. Some may say, well, he's ripping off of Boards with his analog musings. Would that be such a bad thing? This clearly shows that the man known as Dykehouse paid a lot of dues, spending a lot of time creating, before becoming recognised by Planet Mu.
Tracks to look out for are The Patina Of Accumulation, Kalamazoo, Tauq 2, Last Track, Humid Easel Hockey, and Ypsitucky. The genres on this disc range from drill and bass to ambient.
Various - Lost In Translation (Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack) - 01-Nov-08 09:24 AM
This is one of the best soundtracks currently available on vinyl. Coppola chose Brian Reitzell to produce and compile songs to accentuate her latest offering. A lot of the pieces chosen for the soundtrack are disconnected yet peaceful, a theme central to both of the main characters.
This is a soundtrack that will definitely grow on you and if you're lucky enough to own it on LP without paying an arm and a leg, you'll enjoy it that much more.
Avalanches, The - Since I Left You - 14-Jun-08 12:23 PM
Beware of this version of the vinyl. It has been edited to please the overlords, I mean, copyright people.
It is definitely not what the guys had envisioned when originally creating this beautiful and necessary work. I've listened to both Entroducing and this quite extensively, and I have to give it to The Avalanches for topping Entroducing. One could not exist without the other, but I feel the Avalanches pushed the limit on the amount and obscurity as opposed to Shadow. My favourite has changed quite a bit on this record, is no longer Frontier Psychiatrist. That is taken by "A Different Feeling" or "Stay Another Season."
This record takes me back to playing basketball on blacktop as well as kickball in the cul-de-sac during the summer, just as one reviewer envisioned on All-Music. A time where I was mixing it up and truly being a kid.
Again, the LP that you want is MODVL004. This is the Australian version with all samples intact, but sadly without the amazing song "Everyday."
The best album of 2000.
Tool (2) - Lateralus - 26-May-08 02:59 PM
It is very nice to find something you photoshopped and spent countless hours trying to reproduce the slip cover listed as the official picture for discogs on this album.
The music itself is simply breathtaking. I can't wait to listen to it again. Turn off the lights, light some candles, and just lay down and take it in. The important part is to not overthink the album. Don't listen to all of these crazy theories about it. By the end of the album, you'll have the desire to listen again. Recommended 100%.
Kraftwerk - 12345678 - 09-Sep-07 08:36 AM
If you can get your hands on this, please do. I've been told there were 100 scheduled to be sent out by EMI but way less than that actually made it out the door. This set is worth tracking down because the remaster is unparalleled by anything today. There's absolutely no hiss at all, and it's a beauty.
As to the albums themselves, Ralf and Florian decided to choose to start with the album that began the path to their eventual sound, Autobahn. Doing this gives the boxset a more cohesive sound by removing the albums where the group was finding themselves musically.
It ends with the group's submission to the 2003 Tour de France, albeit they were a bit late in releasing this besides the single, and once again prove Kraftwerk is a group that can make little to no changes in their sound and still have a commercial success. The redone suite of Tour de France etapes are more varied than the original, added with classics such as Aero Dynamik that shows Kraftwerk is still relevant in today's world of advanced production.
The only downside I have about the boxset itself is that it lacks any type of special book and is copy protected. I've also been unable to break into Radioactivity as much as the rest of the albusm, but this is merely a personal problem. As this is a promo, and not the full release, we can expect these two areas to be remedied by the group.
