Hixxy, Sharkey, Scott Brown & Dougal - Bonkers 13: Hardcore Horror Show

Opposite of what most have been saying about this Bonkers release, I think it is very good. Hixxy's mix starts slow, but picks up and keeps a good pace. Pretty much a fun little trip through some old skool fun. Sharkey's mix is... unbelievable... a none stop rampage. Flawless mixing and an amazing track selection... it just flows so well... and is so well executed. Scott Browns mix is actually very good. It may follow his usual mixing style, but the track selection is good and left me plenty satisfied. Maybe not amazed, but satisfied. Dougal's set is also... unbelievable. Totally ridiculously happy. Endless good songs, and flawless mixing. Lots of fun. Bonkers 13 is defiantly worth getting your hands on, unlike what has been said. Hixxy and Scott Brown deliver... while Sharkey and Dougal blow your mind! Frankly, this Bonkers release was overall... boring. Hixxy's mix would be my favorite here... simple because I like most the tracks. But even so, the energy dies on the last few songs... and pretty much kills the hype in my opinion. Sharkey ... well, it's not bad. But even after listening to it a few times I don't remember any of it. Same goes for Scott Brown and Dougal. Just nothing with the mixing that really grabs me here. Some kick ass songs, and most of Hixxy's mix is good. But overall, I would say... pick another Bonkers. I would have to say though... I think everyone working on Bonkers was simply using this to make bore us and get us ready for the wickedness of Legends of The Core. Very pretty song... It just flows... it has emotion... it's a kick ass song! Very nice voice for the vocals as well. It has grown on me, I like it more the more I hear it. A second very good production featuring Cloudskipper, as well as some other local SF area hardcore artists. I hope more comes from these people! I can not begin to describe how much I feel with The Theme. It's an amazingly powerful song that sits up there with many of my other favorites. The riff just goes and goes, but never gets old. I'm sure if you know this kind of music, after having listened to this kind of music for a while you notice what riffs are quality, and which are just "average", and The Theme is deffiantly NOT "average". As for The Rushins, it just doesn't cut it for me. It's not bad, and its fun, but doesn't cause much feeling with me. So get this one for The Theme. Worth it, no second thoughts there. Mind blowing album. Really pushes new realms, and does it well. The first track is the weakest I think... and when you hear it you think "whats so great about this!" But after that, all top quality tracks. In fact I totally overlook the first track... its not bad, just doesn't keep up with the others in my opinion... everything else is: totally awesome and/or powerful and/or crazy and/or funny. :) Basically, if you don't have this album you should slap yourself. Amazing combination of wordly elements and Psychedelic Trance... along with ambient and many other styles. In fact, you can pick up just around every style of music some place in this album. A landmark album. I still think it is the best of Shpongles 3 albums also. Goes from Happy to Dark, Powerful to Soothing, Uplifting to Twisted... great stuff. Cloudskipper (one of my favorite local DJ/artist for me, San Francisco, w00t) + Uplift. What else could you ask for. This release was my first record I ever got, and still one of my favorites to spin. It got me into the music and rave scene. Amazing power and flow. Both the original and remix are phenomenal. For anyone who likes Hardcore. Rather psyco, but thats why I like most of the songs. But a lot of them just lack what makes me love this kind of music... they feel dry/empty or something. But I must say, W is soooo emotional and powerful to me, it makes the whole CD worth it. Besides W, the other highlight is MoonEarth, which although great and powerful, is not as well produced in my opinion. Anyway, if you wanna hear some great crazy Japanese stuff, and come out with 2 really really good songs, and some other good ones, get this CD for sure. It's rather hard to come by however. Good luck finding a copy! | ||||
Basically folks, we have here an extremely kick ass and original Bonkers here! I am not quite sure why it is getting so little attention, as it certainly made my day. My personal favorite is Sharkey and Marc Smith's mix (I can not stop listening to that one). But all impress. And all are favorites in the end. I'm glad to see such a strong Bonkers release, doing what it should do once again: pushing leaps and bounds!
