Cirkel - Cirkel Jul 29, 2009
Well f**k my rusty sheriff 's badge! This is truly awesome release. Stated in instant, but it is a fact. And I find a hell of a reason to believe such a statement is not an exaggeration. Seems to be a real hidden gem among all these, often overrated, dub techno-in training releases. Brilliant 12-inch somewhat on the edge of raw crafty techno and droning ambient. After listening this you will not wonder why they love to create monotonous dub music. It is their passion and this is what they do best obviously. Tons of layers, you may say, in it's suffocating deepness. If I had to take a shot and recommend you Cirkel 0.5 in a cheap way, I would do that by saying: Martin Schulte or Djorvin Clain-style profane deepness, power and thick bass meet overwhelming ambience of Quantec maybe,...Atheus perhaps. All the great names gathered into one, if you will. Never heard anything good like this before. Far away from platitude. Big kudos to these two mysterious guys.
Arjen caps his Reduct series with an astonishing eighth act that brings his fans to their feet. He's a true gem in the recent all the rage dub-techno fashion. With this part of the series Ohrwert steers us towards more 'ambientish' territory and can't shake off the feeling that Brock and Sven should definitely invite Ohrwert to contribute some of his works to their label, as "Sonic Shelter" is a perfect example of a masterpiece, typically in Quietus vein. So damn beautiful, bringing to mind first bvdub's release on Quietus or even gets close to the vibe of "ToT" by Quantec. "Infrawave" is more lively, vibrant, yet again with soothing chords and delays. With absolutely not kissing up to you Mr.Schat you've just made it to the top of the genre. Big ups!
