Various - From Across This Gray Land No. 2 - 08-Mar-05 01:28 AM
Popul Vuh are an amazing German band with a long history working with Werner Herzog, so props to Projekt for including them. Really enjoyed Skinner Boxs "Always Dear Iris," and Areas "Our Corner Drowning." Its a shame those bands didnt become more popular. Nice female vox. Vicki Richards violin-lead instrumental is also quite touching and under rated by new fans of the label. This is probably my favorite Projekt comp of all.
Love Spirals Downwards - Temporal: A Collection Of Music Past & Present - 04-Dec-02 03:24 PM
This post-humous compilation attempts to sum up the 8 year recording history of the band, as seen by complier and band leader, Ryan Lum. Beginning at the end of LSDs career, "Temporal" starts off with 2 previously unreleased club mixes from their final studio album, "Flux," then works its way back through all their albums, to the very first track released by Love Spirals Downwards (from a various artists compilation). Its interesting to see the progression of the band from an etheral acoustic guitar and vocal based dark folk act to an atmospheric drum n bass one. Another progression this comp traces is the evolving collaboration between lead vocalist, Suzanne Perry, and Lum. Whereas her voice is argubly the focus of earlier material, towards the middle it takes a backseat to programming and production, becoming sample food for Lums compositions. Containing 6 tracks from comps, eps and live performances, and 7 from albums, this is really an interesting release for both long time fans and new converts.
Everything But The Girl - Amplified Heart - 01-Dec-02 05:05 PM
This album was the catalyst for Ben Watts transformation into a dance music producer. The Todd Terry remix of "Missing" was so popular that Watt decided to try his own hand at club music, which he did brilliantly on their popular follow up, "Walking Wounded." Still, this album is full of enjoyable, if a bit mellow, pop songs --including several with Watts sweet 70s sounding voice. And Tracey Thorne sounds great on this album! Recommended for chilling out to.
Love Spirals Downwards - Flux - 10-Nov-02 12:30 PM
This is the most electronic of the Love Spirals Downwards albums, moving away from the guitar and vocal styles of the previous 3 albums. A fairly mid-tempo affair, it moves from light Trip Hop, to poppy 2-Step, to hybrids that fall somewhere between Drum n Bass and Downtempo, and then on to ambient dubby Techno. More a listening record than a dance one, "Flux" recalls the work of bands such as Olive, Mono, Everything but the Girl and that sort of thing.

Our name is actually Lovespirals, one word. We used to be Love Spirals Downwards, but dropped the last word and combined the first two, so some people get confused about that. Lovespirals are fairly different from Love Spirals Downwards, but we do have a lot of the same fans, anyway.
