Well, it's high time we've had an electronic music record with a sense of humour and a wide view on things. Miguel Soares, not unlike Kubik or Mola Dudle is part of a category of musicians to whom machines are cornucopia from which sweets, dreams, creatures, new lands, chocolate, ghosts and anything else our imagination may beckon spring forth. The synth, the sampler and the computer are the filters of an alternative reality encompassed by a personal vision and the effort to bring a range of many things together, owing also to the Producers excellent production work. Not to mention the fact that titles such as "Beer Canal", "Sparky", "Warp Reactor" or "Buzz Aldrin" are at Negativland-level.

'Ficta 003', the first release of Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzp! is the logical sequence of a path that started in 1991, always supported by the cross-relation between music and images and that, in 1998 can be placed in the field of a vast grey-area of genders and currents where classification contaminates and musical typologies are infecting each other.
One: It's hard to find a midpoint in the electronic music produced in Portugal.
Two: "Midpoint" in this context doesn't mean dull, ordinary, but it designates an entire area, very rich in invention and subtlety. The extremes are just that, extremes. In Portugal, generally, people tend to work those more academic / erudite / experimental / etc fields OR the specific dance floor productions. There were and there are some quality exceptions. Three: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzp! Compositions with a constant rhythmic firmness, explained trough the whole pieces; but, corrupted by perverse off-beats, happenings that build the compositions' histories, embalmed voices that bring music to life ("Rumour"), discreet melodies that demand your close attention (they are not insinuated).
Four: More Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzp!: meticulous construction, insectoid sound forms in "Headzp!", a certain lounge comfort (not easy listening) in "Illogical Progression".
