Pink Industry - Low Technology - 19-Mar-09 02:27 PM
"Low Technology" by Pink Industry sets the standards for perfect music. Previously known as Pink Military, the British band presents an album that has evoked so much of my time. I play a track off this record on my radio show almost every week, because its that good of an album. The best song in my opinion is "Enjoy The Pain", a killer new wave-minimal wave anthem with beautiful female vocals. I dont know if I am going out on a limb, but this might be one of the best albums of the minimal wave and synth-pop era in the 80s. Highly recommended for fans of New Order, Section 25, and Thick Pigeon.
Clio - Eyes - 11-Sep-08 08:02 PM
"Eyes" by Clio is a very sexy italo disco song. Gorgeous female vocals slapped on that wavvy synthesizer/drum programming is what makes me live for italo disco. I would put this release in my top 50 italo disco songs of all time, maybe even top 25. Its the perfect compliment to Clios other masterpiece, "Faces". I always listen to both back to back because they are both genuine italo disco gems. There is a break in the end of this song that is absolutely slamming and one of the best in all of italo disco universe!
Deborah Haslam - They Need A War - 11-Sep-08 07:53 PM
Deborah Haslam had several nice italo disco songs credited to her name in the 80s. This release from 2003 is actually a very beautiful italo dance song. It has a very soft and slow beat that made the italo dance genre quite unique and a great little brother to the italo disco genre. I will be the first to admit that this song is actually a fusion of italo disco and italo dance, as several other projects around 2003-2004 worked with this very unique fusion of the two genres. Haslam happened to release one of my favorite italo disco songs, entitled, "Let Me Trouble", but I definately think this song is very nice and special. Its not in any fine print, but this happens to be a war protest song, most likely of the USA invading Iraq in 2003. The Symar Mix is my favorite version and if youre a deejay who plays his or her cards right, you will be able to mix this one into an italo disco set.
Gazebo - Telephone Mama - 06-Sep-08 09:47 AM
The second album by Gazebo with lead-in song, "Telephone Mama" is special to me because of a little secret gem: "Solitaire". This is my favorite song by Gazebo and I am surprised it was never released on 12" as a single. Future releases by Gazebo were not always masterpieces, so to say, but this one definately is. This is a must-have album for italo disco lovers as this is the only place youll find the song "Solitaire" as it was never released even as a b-side.
Various - A Tribute To Flexi-Pop Vol.10 - 30-Aug-08 02:33 PM
A Tribute To Flexi-Pop Volume 10 contains five, yes 5 of the best songs of the 80s minimal wave movement with no doubt in my mind! "Pilotes" by Performance, "Pound, Pound" by Jeff & Jane Hudson, "Bettan Står I Baren, Baren Är Mitt Mål, Bettan Är Baren" by DC-Pobeln Med Guggi & 17, "Tanz In Dem Himmel" by Emak, and "Je Ne Veux Pas" by Vive La Fęte!. These songs are off of the artists original LPs, but the problem being with Performance, that it is nearly impossible to find. I myself have been unable to locate any other song, be it mp3 or record by Performance for years now! If "Pilotes" is any indication of the rest of the LP, I am then dreaming for the day I find that masterpiece! As for Jeff & Jane Hudson - "Pound, Pound" happens to be their very best song! As for the song by DC-Pobeln, this is what minimal wave music is all about. The gritty male vocals on top of the drone-laced rhythm, with that arpeggio repeating the same line throughout makes this song an absolute stunning gem. "Tanz In Den Himmel" by Emak is a very rare song, this time an instrumental synth-masterpiece. Finally, "Je Ne Veux Pas" by Vive La Fęte! is a unique situation: a newer song on the Flexi series, from Belgium 1998. Its more of that unique stuff called: Minimal Wave music!!!
Whoever created the last few volumes of the Tribute to Flexi (notice I said the Tribute series only!) knows their stuff and purposely put some of the best and rarest pieces ever on these compilations. And whoever you are, I thank you.
