Reviews & Discussion:

Although a solid album (the source material is brilliant after all) this mix adds nothing and I find that this mix in fact detracts from the songs quite a bit. The songs all sound pitched down, drawing down the energy of the tracks that originally had well-paced tempos balancing the dreamy synth lines. It doesn't help that some of the best deepchord tracks are omitted from the mix. The main value of this album is the unreleased material, in my opinion.
Surgeon - Communications Aug 12, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
Perhaps the pinnacle album of Child's early style. Three tracks are gritty, percussive pounders (Particle, Cable, Wire) while the three others (Syllable, Optic, Wave) are more exploratory of their synth lines. Optic for me is the best example of this latter approach. The synth is subtle and complex to begin with. He then rips it in half, separating the right and left channels, lets them drift completely out of phase, then back together. Along the way he morphs them beautifully. Genius of a track.
Jay Denham - The Rise Up E.P. Dec 26, 2005 (edited over 4 years ago)
This one took a while to grow on me. It is subtle and well produced. Not the most dance floor friendly album in the world, but it is solid techno that keeps you interested all the way through nonetheless.
Mint - All Dec 22, 2005 (edited over 4 years ago)
My favorite productions yet to come from the Mint pseudonym. Dreamy, deep minimal tunes, that are easy to get lost in. Highly recommended!

A beautiful EP, reminiscent of Voigt's 'Gas' side-project's later albums such as 'Pop' and 'Zauberg': rich, stringy, minimalism underneath an occasional, stumbling, rhythm. An edited version of track 4 (best of the quad) appears on 'Pop Ambient 2001' on Kompakt.
Gas - Modern Jul 31, 2005 (edited over 4 years ago)
An interesting release, with a much more diverse sound that what is typically found on the longer 'Gas' releases. 'Heller' is the most beautiful song in the entire 'Gas' library, which is saying much. 'Klang' seems forgettable, but 'Roter' and 'Stern' are excellent pieces of somber ambience. This album is a powerful demonstration of W. Voigt's mastery of producing engaging minimalism.
I haven't heard the originals to see how much they have been altered, but the remixes are both outstanding. A must have for those interested in brilliant idm and/or dark atmospheric jungle. The Klute remix actually plays very well at 33 or 45 rpm!!
