cv313 - Seconds To Forever

I actually hate having to write so much about one label but this is one label that helped me get back into electronic music full fledged. This release is like no other I own, it takes you to a place where peace, happiness and a world where gravity doesn't exist. If you could imagine yourself floating in the clouds this might be what you're hearing playing in the background. My best advice is listen to these songs at a low volume with the lights down low, close your eyes and get transported to someplace else, this one will take you there, I promise.
Forget everything you know about this label or its artist, this record is one of a kind. The King Midas Sound Dub is exceptional considering they made a real "song" out of an ambient dub tune and took it in directions I would never have expected to appear on this label. Then we have The Sight Below who also proceed to the very core of the "deep" aspects of this song and build upon it, I could listen to this on repeat for hours on end. The "Live" mix is also a tune reserved for those special moments when you want people to dance and think at the same time, emotional with a depth I can't even begin to explain, just listen and don't forget to move your feet!

What to say that hasn't been said already, I finally managed to score a copy of this on Ebay with the bonus CD and I'm completely blown away by it! The fact this was limited to such a small run of copies and only to be released in Japan is slightly offensive considering I've supported this label and the artist since they put out their first records, why not an official domestic release? Outside of the usual rants and raves the real magic of this entire double CD set is in the closing 20+ minute song of Disk 2. I only hope one day they actually put this one to a 12" so I can play it out and sink an audience into the abyss, it's something I can't put into words. This release is one of a kind and worth its weight in gold!

Picked this up the other day, I know, I know a little late for most the Dub Techno guys out there but I've been more of a Detroit Techno fan more than any other genre. I have to say this record works perfect on a floor, in headphones, in the car, a small bar or on a club system. The original mix is by far my favorite, it sucks you in and pulls you back out again and virtually can be mixed with any genre of music. I still can't believe this was made all the way back in 1993, it has a sound 20 years ahead of its time and still counting, totally genius.

As far as I'm concerned this guy is taking what I know and moving beyond into what I don't. Unpredictable in a market which today relies on predictability and no he isn't copying Shed, Dettmann or Klock, it seems the Berghain is in another time zone with his music. You can tell his music is inspired through the roots of Lil Louis, Francois K, Theo Parrish & Ron Trent being some good examples but still taking things to his own level and drawing out his own boundaries, I only hope to hear more from this guy in 2011.

This one is a belter, hit me the second I dropped the needle on the record, I've been waiting for him to bring me back to the days of the journey and this one sure did. Deep, lush Rhodes, vibrant chords filled with an array of color, a magical journey well worth taking if you ask me. Not many house producers can find the balance between funky and deep but Scott nailed it on this, I only hope he keeps this up, house music all night long.

Even though there seems to be quite a lot of bickering about on the hipster message boards stating releasing an anonymous record is all about capitalizing and marketing, I reckon it was the exact opposite reason for the fellas who put their funds on the line for this release. A true ace double, the artwork is one of a kind, unique and genuine, as is the way its all packaged and put together, a great find for me in a year which has left me feeling unsatisfied with most releases. I have heard 10 different rumors about who made this record, from Juan Atkins, Convextion to Underground Resistance, the only thing I know for certain is Jeff Mills seems to playing it from the stories I've heard and for good reason, its a massive record. The A side is super slick, I cant figure out how they managed to pan the sounds around your head like that? It kind of messes me up when I am mixing it but it sounds so sweet coming out of the speakers. The second disk, YIKES, songs like these were meant to do one thing, detonate and explode! Astounding! |
