Lee Moses - Reach Out, I'll Be There / Day Tripper - 14-Oct-09 08:30 AM
The A-Side is an instrumental cover of the Four Tops classic. This is not only an incredible version, but also a djs secret weapon too, as it rams the floor every time it's dropped. Fat and funky drums collide with raw organ to create a blistering workout that packs so much into it's 2:48 seconds, it will leave you breathless. I cannot recommend this tune highly enough. A must have for your record box, and now a very sought-after 45.
Flowers - For Real - 27-Oct-07 04:55 AM
A Leroy Hutson-sounding, string-laden song with a wonderful vocal that has to these ears never sounded dated. It is a glorious record that for me, epitomises what is great about the 70's modern soul sound.
A bootleg EP featured a '12" version' of 'For Real', infact it was just an accomplished edit that fused both the A & B sides of this 45 together, there was never an official 12" release. Flowers also cut another track for LA Xpressio, the equally lovely 'We Can Make It Happen' (LAX 102) which is also highly-indemand amongst collectors of this genre.
My favourite record of all time.
Breakwater - Say You Love Me Girl - 26-Jun-07 11:08 AM
Although this 12" release is dated as 1980, this was actually the year of release of the LP 'Splashdown' containing the track 'Say You Love Me Girl', infact this reissue 12" came out in the late 80's. The other two tracks featured are taken from there self-titled album 'Breakwater', released in 1978.
Clyde Alexander & Sanction - Got To Get Your Love - 11-Jun-07 06:18 PM
How do I tell the difference between an original and a re-issue ... The original pressing has a light pink coloured label (on the re-issue it is beige). The catalogue number etched on the deadwax of the original is 905 (on the re-issue it's HS905) plus it features etched pressing plant markings which the re-issue does not have. Futhermore, the word 'Instrumental' is printed on the B-side of the repress, this is missing from the original. Lastly, The re-issue has '33 1/3' printed with a forward slash between the one & the three, whereas the original copy shows this as a one third equation symbol in smaller typeface.
Black Box - Positive Vibration - 13-Oct-06 09:01 AM
Overall, this is a fairly mediocre set for one standout track, 'Fall Into My Love', which has recently been picked up on by the Modern soul scence. Once a fairly easy and inexpensive cd to find has now risen sharply in price owing to the demand for this track, although recently it has been included on a compilation called 'Soul Togetherness 2006' which is a highly revered collection of current & classic Modern Soul tunes. Apparantly 'Positve Vibration' was also released in Japan.
