Reviews & Discussion:
Holy smokes big, dark and brooding; Mr. Pallikaris does some serious business with these tunes. Krevadence manages to slightly escape the black hole of doom with some nice chillin melodic pads and stabs, but Decadence keeps beating you down for 7 and a half minutes!
Probably one of the most sublime progressive trancers I have ever heard. The melodic stab that comes in midway through the track sits very very well with Mr. Lemon's trademark percussion. I loved the Original mix and bought this record not knowing what the b-side was like...as it turns out I enjoy it even more.
If I had to make a top 10 all-time progressive house chart the Original Mix of this song would be on it hands down.
Tight, tight production: a clap/snare that just nails together the rest of the percussion, a bassline that is just downright evil and washy stabs and wooshes that bounce around on top of the rest of the tune. Halfway through the track a perfect melodic hook grabs your attention for a while until you are slammed back into the relentless mental assault. Flip it over and the Heavy Mix is just that: the Original broken down into its barest elements... assaulting you with its minimal, often borderline-boring (yes I said it, but c'mon, we're talking about REAL progressive house here!!) beat. Definitely one of the best progressive house records out there, both mixes display a different side of the genre, however it is the original that stands out in the package.
I thought this was going to be a mix CD, like a lot of other Lawrence style compilations, but they are all individual tracks. And boy do they rock out. I never knew Lawrence as a producer, but these tunes firmly cement him in my books as a very talented musician. Hard driving progressive trance with a touch of psy, every track had me imagining it in a club. | ||||
