Burial - Untrue - 14-Mar-08 04:05 AM
Burial-Burial was one of the most well-received debuts of the past few years, seemingly effortlessly dubstep was put on the map (again), numerous ears were left anxious for more. Early november 2007 Burial releases a second album: ‘Untrue’, a worthy follow-up - continuing in the same gritty and melancholic style. What makes burial so neat is that his sound is raw - unpolished. sometimes almost cacophonic, chockfull of bass and sock-rocking, The samples Burial uses are inspiring and make one curious for what is next. Not everything on ‘Untrue’ is a retake of the old recipe, Burial manages to bring a bit more warmth and glee to this album - with sometimes even a hint of sunshine, he achieves this by focussing more on (sampled) vocals, understanding the words is something for a trained and patient listener, but the whole is a lovely package that deserves to be played over and over, a good reason to try that old repeat button.

Clark* - Turning Dragon - 14-Mar-08 04:01 AM
Clark’s fourth album really stirs things up, almost every track has serious muscle behind it. ‘Turning Dragon’ is without a doubt a typical Clark album (breakdowns, shifts in rhythm, stuttering synths), only is it far more heavier than any other of the man’s releases. The seconds pound on with the occasional breather, only to pick up pace again. Some compositions bare resemblance to a crossbreed of early Luke Slater and µ-Ziq - covered in rich Clark gravy. ‘Turning Dragon’ stands for surprising skull-drilling that never bores and makes one curious of what else is up Chris Clark’s sleeve!

Doubtful Guest, The - Acid Sauna - 14-Mar-08 03:59 AM
Planet Mu kicks off 2008 with some heavy duty stuff, ‘Doubtful Guest’ drops a slab of slamming acid coated blashup - techno that makes any head bob. Lately the genre seems to be kinda stuck and originality is far to be found, but ‘Acid Sauna’ twists and turns with funny little surprises. It is a decent collection of bpm, don’t expect any hidden messages or fancy stories, with ‘Acid Sauna’ you get what you hear and it sounds good!
