Convextion - Romantic Interface - 31-Aug-07 06:28 PM
Bit of a shame... It looks like Mr Hanson is cashing in on the hype-machine surrounding his last couple of releases and trying to get as much material out in as short a space of time as possible. This is without doubt the worst thing that he has released under the Convextion moniker so far. Its all filler and no-killer with this release Im afraid, with a selection of tossed-off and meandering half-baked ideas, and with none of the depth and soul of some of those more inspired moments that made him stuff of techno myth for a brief time. Please fella, chillax and take your time, releases like this are sullying your otherwise magnificent portfolio.

Boards Of Canada - Unreleased Tracks - 24-Jun-07 09:49 PM
This admittedly isnt the greatest manufacture ever (the labels are on the wrong sides/a ropey print), but I would have to say nor is it a SHOCKINGLY BAD pressing. Its a good loud cut, and sounds WAAAY better than any mp3 I have ever heard of these tracks. Im not an advocate of counterfeits per se, but it does bother me when self-righteous bootleg-haters are so quick to disregard a record that for most is very much (bearing in mind these tracks are rare as hell and unlikely to ever be re-released) worth owning.

Kettel - Making Gentle Love To Famous Ladies - 05-Jan-06 05:44 AM
The Bjork remix is pleasant enough, by virtue of its not really doing too much to divert from the original. However, the other mixes are pretty dismal attempts to hatchet together uplifting trashy pop accapellas with reflective pastoral electronics (reflective pastoral electronics being what Kettel is good at). It all sounds woefully messy, in a my first Acid mash-up kind of way - there hasnt even been an attempt to key-match throughout most of the record, as far as I can tell.

This record all feels a bit 1999-2001, and seems like a bit of an attempt to be immortalized in ebay collectability, yet it fails miserably where people like bit_meddler et al succeeded (albeit in a novelty way, of course).

KLF, The vs. Ricardo Villalobos - What Time Is Love? - 13-Oct-05 09:51 AM
Frankly annoying record which pays little tribute to anything that made the original version so special. This reductio ad absurdum of such a vibrant and colourful record into a grim, sloppy, glitchy, alias-soup is definitely amongst Villalobos poorer efforts, further soured by the fact that it seems to take itself quite so seriously. Sad.

Colder - Crazy Love - 23-Aug-04 07:50 AM
Fairly wasted opportunity of a 12" release here, as I find it difficult to imagine many people who would have bought the superb Colder album liking either of the remixes included. The Luke Innes remix is simply woeful, reminiscent of some of the most tedious sixth-form tortured wailing on record, and the Rework remix is dissappointing, being far darker and sweatier than their usual stuff, which whilst possibly holding some appeal to a Danny Tennaglia(?) fan, is unlikely to find many enthusiasts amongst the Playhouse/Output market it is aimed at... Hence recent sightings in local bargain bins.
