MC Yogi - Elephant Power - 25-May-09 09:30 AM
It is not often I am stirred to write a revue for new albums, there has to be something special about it. In the case of Elephant Power something special is certainly the case.
What happens when you combine yoga with hip hop? In the hands of MC Yogi, you get a first-of-its kind new record mixing the energy, beats and vocal styling’s of rap music with traditional Indian instruments, kirtan-style chanting and yoga-inspired lyrics. With 14 original tracks celebrating Indian mythology and spirituality, MC Yogi’s genre-bending debut, Elephant Power, offers a devotional hip hop experience.

Every track stirs something for me, the sentiment of spirituality is foremost within this music, but the music itself is really something remarkable. There is a fantastic sense of humour throughout the entire album with each track offering its own sense of individuality.

Elephant Power features an all star cast including Krishna Das, Bhagavan Das, Jai Uttal and Sharon Gannon.
Favourite track for me is Track 8. Son of Shiva. The poetry, the beats, the humour... everything about this track has it listed a future classic for me.

MC Yogi is a new find for me, but be assured I will be awaiting future releases from this totally unique artist. This album has given my friends and I much pleasure.

Chilling Matenda - Chilling Matenda - 05-Apr-09 03:10 PM
Chillcode is a fresh German ambient label, a platform for all kinds of psychedelic slow beats. Their primary goal is to release high quality artists with a high production level. Here is the first of their CDs. The debut chill album of Swedish artist Matenda which contains nine pure chilling downbeat tracks with a warm, positive and groovy vibe.

Packed with atmospheric chilling sounds laced over groovy downbeat relaxing ambient beats.... a masterpiece.

Every track is a gem, Club Expander in particular stands out for me, I was working while listening to this album, I just floated away in a day dream, it was only the end of the album that bought me back to ground (thankfully I work at a computer).

Health Warning: Do not operate heavy machinery while listening to this album.

Pockets Of Resistance - Climate Change - 29-Mar-09 05:13 PM
Pockets of Resistance is the alias of DJ/Producer Arch Campbell.

At the end of the nineties Arch became involved in electronic music production through his interest in dance music and minimal music (Terry Riley, Steve Reich). He then enrolled at Newham College, East London and completed a course in music technology, in order to hone his production skills.

In 2000 Arch returned to Edinburgh, and involved himself in production work. Arch has just completed this debut album, an album of down-tempo tracks "Climate Change" .

Tracks were also featured in the "new talent" section of Drum and Bass Arena

Influences include King Tubby, Miles Davis, The Orb, Future Sound of London, Boards of Canada and Photek

Alucidnation - Induction - 25-Mar-09 03:19 AM
A fantastic album this. Really mellow, bags of feeling. Neil Young on MDMA. I do rate Bruce Bickerton as an amazing composer and musician.

This album features some very interesting soundscapes, some funky beats from time to time but overall it's really very dreamy.

Other releases from Bruce can be found on his own label lucid recordings. If you like your ambient with a sense of humour and some twists and turns mixed in with a few surprises then I think you will dig this album.
