Lost Witness - Happiness Happening - 18-Nov-09 02:04 AM
This one is currently given new life by Lange updating his remix and Ali Wilson doing a techier rerub and while both are ok, the latter being a little better. The Way Out West remix have always been the best version in my opinion. They took a bland trancer and reshaped the fundamentals into a proper thing. The most obvious change is the breakbeat in the beginning and its switch from breaks to four-on-the-floor and back again into breaks for its mixout. Secondly, the vocals have been changed by reusing different lines from the original Hush acapella and by using darker sounds and a deeper bassline they reshaped what was a mediocre trancer into a proper bomb.

Deepest Blue - Deepest Blue - 09-Nov-09 04:44 AM
This one is a typical Matt Schwarz housey but with a trancy influence production, it had a catchy vocal and a great hook. It being released on ministry of sound would solitify atleast a minor commercial success and it went beyond that. For the remixes there was a couple of interesting ones by Lee-Cabrera, The Underwolves and Paradise + Moriarty (the two latter ones more available on the stateside Ultra release).

For the versions on this release Electrique Boutique do a trancy refix and Jon Hopkins go for a chillout rendition. Lee-Cabrera reuse the same idea for their remix of Dutchs My Time and change the mood from a constant sun-shower into a darker excursion. The vocal is used quite sparsely and the tribal groove and deep bassline is heavy.

Shola Ama - Much Love - 05-Nov-09 03:48 AM
This single is nice and delivers a steady amount of versions of the poppy r original, some leaning towards the dance floor and some more for home listening. There is versatility but i reckon one or two could be left off in favour for Dreem Teams remix.

The Ignorants does the hardest version on this and goes for an synthy rerub and emphasise the bass really well. Salaam Remi does his usual East Coast style and does it nicely aswell. DInfluences rendition is an 80s r/funk nod and both Cutfather & Joe and Marco Rakascan go for updating the original to suit radioplay.

Paris (4) - Disco Fever EP - 18-Oct-09 06:04 AM
I already knew of the original when I copped this 6 years ago and I didnt think much of the song and i just thought it was yet another track by some group who romanticised the 80s new wave sound. But the single having a FPU remix really intrigued me and I had a listen and didnt have a doubt of buying it.

Peter Benisch did a mighty fine job with this, the initial work was by slowing it down to 140 from its original 165. Then by using one of the rhythm guitar parts he lays a poppy electro foundation and works the vocals over it. He reshaped the lyrics and put dreamy effects on Annika Mellins vocals and then laced gorgeous synth-strings on top.

Terra Dëva* - Fresh Start (Remixes) - 15-Oct-09 01:45 PM
True was one of the many NEWS sublabels and one of them who had the concept of licensing off hot records and giving them some off kilter renditions. The original of Fresh Start was originally from San Francisco label OM and was a jazzy drum & bass track done with Dave Biegel aka Bugs. For the original release Joshua delivered solid house renditions and after it being licensed off to NRK, Derrick Carter worked his magic with a cracking workout.

However the real charm on this is Matthew Herberts subdued remix. With his unusual sounding percussion grooves & a deep bassline, Herbert sets the base for an lowkey organic pad shower and synth flutter along and Terras vocals worked on top in Herberts manner. This is perfect for the smaller rooms in clubs and for your home stereo.
