D1 / Rusko - Dubstep Warz / Get Your Cock Out - 18-Sep-09 04:00 PM
Finally, D1 "Dubstep Warz" (aka "The Ritual) sees a release! "Dubstep Warz" is the tune featured at the beginning of Mary Anne Hobb's "Dubstep Wars" showcase in January 2006 and has been on dubplate since then. Classic D1!
Instead being coupled with another D1 tune, the b-side is a ridiculously mismatched tune from Rusko for some reason. I recommend buying some sandpaper and grinding off the grooves from the Rusko side and not speaking any further on the matter.

Lloop - 60 Hertz - 10-Feb-09 07:25 PM
This album is Seriously wonderful!!! It's been a long time since I last heard any new jams from Lloop. This one is certainly worth waiting for!! Unique and funky, moody but not "trying to be dark" Perhaps best described as running up on dubstep in an alley and going somewhere new with it. Most of the album runs at 140 bpm and has a nice sub-bass going on. Switching gears and tempo, "Conch" is a nice rhythm inna any dancehall!

DZ (3) - Chalice Dub / Bongo Dub - 24-Sep-08 02:03 AM
DZ comes correct on this release. A warm, full bass tone and a subdued jungly vibe carries this tune and the laid back vocal praising the chalice will nice-up any session!
Debut vocal appearance from Awaken Lion is simple and to the point. Keeps a roots vibe without going into parody territory.

Side A is straight to the head of those systems having success at the time introducing R into a less rootical reggae selection.

Side B keeps the rave alive with a shuffley, shifting drum pattern and washes of strings. Wonderful!

Tes La Rok - Up In The VIP / Livin Fire - 23-Sep-08 08:33 PM
Bring on the clown-step!
"Up in the VIP." is completely ridiculous and will likely be either forgotten already or be remembered as one of dubstep's tombstones. The vocal is awful, pompous and unfortunately catchy. The music on the tune is nothing particularly new or groundbreaking and sounds like some soft, top forty R material for grown-ups. This record is somewhat salvaged by the easy skankin' of "Livin' Fire".

This release can be summed up thusly: "Up in the VIP." Sounds like one of those tracks that will show up in 20 years on K-Tel's "Now, That's What I Call Dubstep Volume 4".

Search & Destroy (2) / Toasty - Candyfloss (Toasty Remix) / The Knowledge (Vex'd Remix) - 15-Sep-08 08:01 PM
Toasty improves on Search and Destroy's original version in fine style with a dreamier, more spacious vibe and a fuller bass section, keeping the tune breaky. One of my favorite formerly lost dubs.
I don't much care for this Vex'd remix of "Knowledge" and it has already been issued backed with a Loefah remix of "Candyfloss". It's a huge tune and all that, but it doesn't have any of the feeling of Toasty's original and doesn't really go anywhere.
Would rather have seen something new released on the b-side.
