Dominik Eulberg - Flora & Fauna - 28-Nov-04 02:30 PM
When I first popped this cd in, my first impression was another mediocre album. Must of not had a clear head, because a Sunday morning sit-down with coffee almost blew me out of my chair. I dont understand German, so I have no idea what the liner notes and song titles read, but basic Latin lets us know whats going when contrasted to the music.

Im reminded of the cold journey Krystian Shek took through Russia that spawned Eisblumen, but Flora & Fauna is delivered in a mush more visceral form. Tangible elements are created and allowed to make melodies that haunt with destruction. Im not sure if were in a friendly place all the time, as I suspect were the Fauna and our Flora has become cold steel.

Im really enjoying the production of the album as the environmental and ambient qualities are very enveloping, and in some ways, I wish we had a companion ambient cd to go along here- to ever increase the dichotomy, of course. I look forward to future productions from Eulberg and hope there happens to be some nice ambient in there too.

One last note, for us thirty-somethings, Track 9 is a very nice wistful flashback with a modern touch.

4Voice - 4Voice II - 17-Sep-04 07:31 AM
As of this point in time there are three 4 Voice cds to date. The fist in the series, 4 Voice, named after the primary instrument used, is ok- hard trance, essential for Faxheads or for those who wish to know the source of early trance. 4 Voice II is a masterpiece. Namlook has always had a knack of mixing the ambient with the breaks and beats, but this album transcends many of the like. The term 4 Voice is truly brought to light as the artist, being PK, uses the 4 Voice as an extension of himself and emotion which adds up for a melodic 55 minute long journey into the resistors, diodes, etc... The picture displayed on the cover shows the medium in which aesthetic is translated. going back to 4 Voice I, the point was mainly the style or genre being channelled via the medium.

4 Voice III is also a very good album, but not as consistent, and reflects some of the original harder trance at times while II stays softer. As you might be aware of these three albums might fetch a high price, although at this time III is still fresh and cheap. II would be my goal and aspiration in the series, Id place this album in namlooks top 5 solo works, 1-4 being ?, but this is a must.

David Morley - Tilted - 06-Sep-04 01:41 AM
After digesting the contents of Tilted, which took a couple of years, it has established itself as one of the finest produced and most creative ambient techno albums I have experienced. Most of the album is consumed in a very layered and complex sequencing of driving breaks and environmental qualities that are subtly added to enhance the drive and fill the gaps. There is not a focus on any particular element of any track as even the strown guitars melt in and out of Shining. In short, each track becomes all comsuming as does the album art.

As far as all other Morley experiences, this stands as his shining moment for me. This is a piece of history which is well worth going after despite it being out of production. The Limited Edition is a bonus for those interested in the album art as it has a nice matte finish and unique packaging which adds allure of the overall experience.

Moodymann - Black Mahogani - 26-Jul-04 08:05 PM
When i first came across what is considered to be deep house, I wasnt all that impressed. It wasnt until I came across kdjs and charles websters labels did I discover what house was right for me. The soul, Rhodes, roots... just the complete ambiance of these consistently perfect releases is astounding. Many of the quality issues I own take me back to the days of my parents playing Stevie Wonder, and the warm emotions that would inspire. A wholeness. The music presented by the afore mentioned artists and labels is about community and the splendor that shall arise. While the essence of Forevernevermore is present in Black Mahagoni, Black takes the cake. While Black Mahagoni isnt by any means an album to throw down at a party, it transcends Forevernever in aesthetics, spirituality, and is mixed appropriately so as to make it perfectly logical as a tale. I have yet to hear anything I dislike on kdjd productions, but this is a must by all means for any lover of ambient deep house

Yagya - Rhythm Of Snow - 25-Apr-04 02:03 PM
Much has been said about yagya and the Rhythm of Snow, all of which i agree upon. The highlight of this album is Snowflake 6 which stands to a climax in the story. Snowflake 10, as mentioned a variation/remix of 6, is the denouement. Many nostalgic feelings seem to be placed here. Unlike the sense of smell which has the power to recall specific moments and events in time, the soundscapes created within put me in a place. Title influenced, i stand shallow in tall stark snowcovered fields feeling the weight of white, but im constantly being lifted by the contrast of subtlies turned overt by the produced environment. If i had one word to descrbe Rhythm Of Snow, it would be spiritual.
